I'm on with my 2nd dose of lurgie this year & have a cough. Not a nasty hacking one just a bit of phlegm or 'Goz' lodged in my lungs that I can't shift.
Can anyone reccommend anything to shift it?! It's worse during the night & when I breathe out I can hear lots of wheezing & crackling noises which wakes me up & keeps me awake. It's doing my nut in.
Ta.

Cough medicine isn't there to cure it, just to make the symptoms feel better. Find one you like the taste of...

Steam inhalation will help more than any cough medicine

steam alone.  What you are doing is softening the mucus so you can get rid of it easier.

You might need antibiotics as well from the sound of it.  try the steam 4 times a day over the weekend and if not improving docs on monday

Doesn't stop the cough, but anti-histamine medicine might make you tired enough to sleep anyway. Worked for me.

Make your own cough medicine with a teaspoon of honey, half a lemon juiced, crushed paracetamol and make into a drink with green tea.

It's not the same since they took all the things out that made you hallucinate. Never forgotten the rabbits running all over my grandma's house

Pholcodeine (sp?) linctus actually works. Whether you want to surpress a cough when you’ve got grot in your upper airways is a different question. (Answer; depends on the cough. See a doctor)

Anything with menthol in it will loosen it. Avoid anything that suppresses the cough, you need an expectorant to make you cough it up.

Sounds similar to my lurgy. It was the crackling that caused the Doc concern and I was given antibiotics as he suspected Pneumonia. They worked; crackling gone but the cough some weeks later is still in residence.

Regular doses of hot lemon and honey, ease it but don't get rid of it, similarly at night slowly sucking on a werthers obviously causes enough saliva to ease the passages.

I went back to my Doc as I was feeling better after the Pneumonia but was concerned about the cough. In the nicest possible way was told that the cough was an afer effect of the infection and I was going to have the MTFU for a few more weeks!

If you do find a solution, let me know, as its irritating not just me but the whole household!

Cheap and cheerful bronchial, mentholated cough medicine. Tesco do one for less than £1:50. It loosens the grot in your lungs and also contains capsicum, pepper, which will make you cough the lumps up.

But it if you can hear crackling it’s probably heading towards an infection. Get thee to a doctor.
