I was drawing up a response, but I am concerned it will be erased.

Will be visiting the Keswick pencil museum in a few weeks when we're up there (with the working cats in tow).

Are we allowed to celebrate the propelling pencil today, or is that seen as the equivalent of an eBike by the purists?

Am I allowed to say **** off to someone with a book called "how to sharpen pencils" ? Please? Hatred is oozing.

No but I'm offended by the label on the pencil DICTATING how it should be used. Never buying errrm... that brand again I can tell you.

Maybe just a tad mightier than a letter opener.

And, right, I've used them for SKETCHING. I'm such a sheeple.

Thank christ David Rees is a joke (twice on the thread). I was close to actual murder.

The bit I used to love about my Civil Engineering career was getting a new piece of paper taped on the drawing board, sharpening the pencils and getting the design off the calc pad and onto the drawing.

Mind you they used to look at least 10 times better after they had been to the tracers' office.

Here’s my three treasured pencils:

The brass one was a Kickstarter project, it’s all machined brass and steel, the top unscrews to put leads in, but the seam is virtually invisible.
The Rotring Trio-Pen with white text is one I bought when I was working in prepress and publishing in the 70-80’s, the one with the red text I got off eBay a year or so back, it cost quite a lot of money, but new they weren’t cheap! All brass and steel, three different lead sizes; 0.3, 0.5 and 0.7mm. I always used a 4H 0.3mm lead for fine construction lines, a blue 0.5mm for artwork going under the camera for litho repro - blue lines won’t reproduce, and an HB 0.7mm for general writing, etc.
I got the newer one just in case anything happened to the other one, Rotring don’t make an all-pencil version now, just a two-colour ballpoint and 0.5mm pencil.
