My 3 and a half year old daughter rolls her "r"s like a pirate!
We are not very sure where she has picked this up from 😕
Yarrrgh that scurvy sea dog Robert Newton has a lot to answer for!
Apparently if you have a visitor on pirate day who has an eye patch and a limp it is inappropriate to find some small amusement in that 🙁
I honestly have no idea what this pirate thing is all about. Savage criminals from the 18th century have somehow turned into a cute cult for kids. Wtf?
The decline in the number of pirates is directly responsible for global warming.
Oops. Piratey error.
Molgrips, talk like a pirate, not a prat.
That's not helping me understand, CM...
In fact I do kind of understand it.. pirates have been romanticised ever since the state sponsored privateers of Elizabethan times - like Raleigh.
Raleigh make pirates? As well as Grifters and stuff?
Just look at Somalia - more pirates than anywhere else in the world, and lowest carbon emissions of any country. The decline in the number of pirates is directly responsible for global warming.
I live in Devon. Everyone here sounds like a pirate.
arr, couldn't give a sh1t arr
My 3 year old thinks the best joke ever is 'why are pirates called pirates? - because they arrr!' (and who am I to disagree?)

That's true although it's definitely fading out a bit nowadays bey.. 🙁
does anyone know what 'shiver me timbers" is in Somali.
My mum met the Chandlers last week.. that was some heavy shit that they went through..

As someone born and bred in Devon I thought the local accent was cockney 😥
do they have cheese?
i cannot tell you how long i have been waiting for a thread like this 😀
this isn't as good as the amiga version (the first monkey island that i played) now for a good shantying 😯 😀
The reason that 'pirates' were originally held in some regard was from the days when they were 'privateers' and given licences by the crown to attack shipping under foreign flags. Before England had a navy our sea power (and a large amount of wealth) was wholly derived from such ships.
Pirates were, effectively, privateers without a licence but probably not much else to distinguish them from each other in the publics eye (as longs as the pirates only attacked foriegn shipping).
