Apparently if you have a visitor on pirate day who has an eye patch and a limp it is inappropriate to find some small amusement in that ๐Ÿ™

I honestly have no idea what this pirate thing is all about. Savage criminals from the 18th century have somehow turned into a cute cult for kids. Wtf?

The decline in the number of pirates is directly responsible for global warming.

That's not helping me understand, CM...

In fact I do kind of understand it.. pirates have been romanticised ever since the state sponsored privateers of Elizabethan times - like Raleigh.

Just look at Somalia - more pirates than anywhere else in the world, and lowest carbon emissions of any country.

The reason that 'pirates' were originally held in some regard was from the days when they were 'privateers' and given licences by the crown to attack shipping under foreign flags. Before England had a navy our sea power (and a large amount of wealth) was wholly derived from such ships.

Pirates were, effectively, privateers without a licence but probably not much else to distinguish them from each other in the publics eye (as longs as the pirates only attacked foriegn shipping).
