Despite being a Barnsley lad and more used to having a nice big battered fish and chips, with peas and white bread, my Friday tea will consist of filet steak, roast veg and homemade spicy wedges. It is the wife's birthday, after all!

Thinking of 'proper' tea, anyone know if Oldfields of Barnsley still make their 'meat and potato' pies? Fond memories of pie and peas in their cafe in the indoor market when I was a nipper. Living in Portsmouth now makes it hard to check!

It's certainly takeaway night but all fish is wrong, as any fule kno. Thus I will be enjoying the wonders of Kung Po chicken and garlic chilli ribs.
Om nyom nyom, as I believe the modern terminology goes (when correctly spelled).

Office Canteen for lunch. Fish (haddock, battered), chips, mushy peas. To be honest, I was surprised by the question - thought it was compulsory? In any event, if you find yourself in Whitby I suggest if you have never done so you try F&C in the Magpie Cafe. Life Changing.

Totally disagree Fopster. They're no better at the Magpie than the ones next door. Rick Stein was wrong all along!

a mate and his wife queued at the magpie for 40 minutes.
when they got in it was half empty.
they asked why they had been waiting outside.
the lady said ' it is to make us look busy, so people will want to come in'.
put me off going to be honest.

Large Cod & Chips + a few old speckled hens. That'll do.

Bugger. Now I'll have to go and try the place next door, and it's a 400 mile round trip. Will have to concoct a camping weekend excuse with the kids...
