Decided to dip my toe in the water as I'm feeling under challenged at work and have zero career progression opportunities. I thought giving my details to IT job agencies and see what happens. Any good ones worth looking at? I'm based in North Wales if that makes any difference

Just load your CV onto cwjobs, reed, jobsite, monster, jobserve, itjobs etc and prepare to get bombarded by calls from agencies.

Update your cv and stick it on the online job boards - CW Jobs, Jobserve etc. and the agencies will contact you.

Sign up on LinkedIn, fully populate your profile. You'll get agencies chasing you down. Some of them will be for all sorts of random stuff, that isn't at all relevant, others will just want to get your details so they can put you forward for a worthless role ... but at least they can show the employer that they've put you forward! But after that there are good genuine roles.

Where in North Wales, would travelling to Chester/Liverpool be an issue?

I last uploaded my CV just under two years ago. I still get three or four emails / linked-in contact requests a week. If you have a good CV you will be mobbed. WHat area are you looking to work in?

Oh, and have a running prize for the most outlandishly inapplicable roles that are sent to you.

My current winner is a vacancy for an offshore engineer ; "conceptual through to detailed design of moorings and cable systems". I'm a Financial Services BA 🙂

OK, thanks all.
nbt, been in my present position for over 10yrs and work with the manufacturing sector. I manage IS/IT for a number of large manufacturing plants across the UK and project manage infrastructure installations as well as general IS/IT duties. Kinda happy to stay within the same area to be honest.

Mate of mine owns an agency. Have a look at http://www.astutejobs.co.uk/

depends on the type of IT software and role, I only like to use specific SAP agencies as there are too many that are just selling on people to other agencies

be more proactive
start looking for jobs you like the look of/locaton etc (jobserve, cwjobs, reed, monster, itjobboard etc etc)
find interesting job, phone up agent and get more details
attune cv (I would suggest not lying but positive marketing and yes I've seen plenty of porkies) to the required job, mail in
hope for best
oh - and if it's not in writing and signed don't believe it - proud owner of a very large unused suitcase and an unused Belgium air ticket
