Anyone know of any larger businesses (not a shop on the corner) that repair monitors? (Midlands based if that helps)
We have three brand new 4K screens with malicious damage (education sector), that obviously aren't covered by their warranty and the manufacturer has turned round and said they don't do their own repairs. They pointed us to Knowhow, who after going thru 5 departments said they don't repair monitors. I've also tried to source the parts, to look at the option of repairing it ourselves, but had no luck there. As I was eventually pointed to a different sized replacement screen, double the price of a new complete monitor - I've asked again but had no response

If it's the panel that's damaged they're probably beyond economical repair, that's the bulk of the cost of a screen.

A panel isn't repairable in any way. And a monitor is just a panel with a plastic case, power supply and little circuit board.

So if the panel is destroyed then they might as well have put it through a blender.

no insurance at the institute / school?

As Cougar said, damaged panels usually mean a write-off.

Ha!
If they claimed on the insurance for all the malicious damage, no one would re-insure them! They've invested in a lot of CCTV camera instead...

well it just was a thought, as I hate binning stuff

Strip them down and sell the component parts on ebay.

Doesn't that defeat the whole point of insurance?

Maybe, commerical insurance isn't as easy as home insurance.

Claim on a few hundred quids worth of screens, renwal premiums go up, uneconomic.

Claim on a school's worth of IT kit after a fire / flood / plague etc - economic.

As wizzi said, I think I'd just put them on ebay as spares or repair - people seem to buy almost anything (that includes me!).

(I wouldn't even bother breaking them down into parts)

+1 for ebay.

Buy normal HD screens and if anyone complains tell them why.
