Tom yes you are right on the Iran / Iraq war in terms of casualties but that was primarily a military conflict I believe (7 years long I think) so whether you say Saddam was responsible for those deaths I don't know. I think ISIS has killed less people than the Syrian government but is far more dangerous given their pan-region objectives and the number of casualties for which they are responsible may well surpass those in Syria and it could happen fairly soon.

but on the point of the Iraq/Iran war...the Iranians had the military funding and support of Russia. this was during the Cold War era so the Americans lent their military support and funding to Iraq. this war lasted 8 years and millions were killed on both sides. both these countries were used as puppets by their backers in a case of one-upmanship. the result was however that they created 2 countries that were now highly trained, armed and funded who had developed a taste for war. once they had served their [purpose to their puppet masters they were left to do as they pleased and in most cases this was to carry out brutal murderous acts against their own people in order to maintain their control over their governments.
due to this the west still has a moral responsibility to try to clear up the mess made by the monsters they created.
however as Binners rightly pointed out they've tried this and made a complete balls up of it and have made the situation worse....so i'm not sure what the solution would now be.

It's all related guys and how the reactions and views of people varying according to the locale of the conflict is relevant, that is my point. Read my posts. I have repeatedly said we need only one Middle East thread.
