🙂
and here's a gentleman doing an awesome cover of one of daytona's other classics seriously he is brilliant 😀
I thought the accepted wisdom was that the music to Xenon II: Megablast (It's a megablast by Bomb the Bass, possibly one of the first licenced bits of music in a computer game) was the best?
Either way you're all wrong; fast forward two years to another of the Bitmap Brothers' games, Magic Pockets, and you will find the awesomeness that is Betty Boo, Doin' the Do. 8)
It's not even the best music to a driving game.

I heard John Carpenter's theme to Assault on Precinct 13 on the radio the other day and you know what, it's the same track. Google it.
Pso2 intro music on the dreamcast. The music on halo reach was great in places. But my fave has to be super mario, forever whistling it.
The ocarina bit from Zelda on the N64.
C64 - Thing on a Spring
or anything by Rob Hubbard.
I still turn into an eight year of old whenever I hear the theme to Wonderboy.
Tom83 has it - super mario on the NES - I can't think of any other music from any form of entertainment that I whistle/hum/do-do-do more often
Wipeout doesn't really count, though it sort of does.
This is the clear winner:

Neither's that. This is!

This.
Remember playing it on my Mate's Amiga and loving it..
Nah, from that game this:
is the best tune by a country mile. But I'm not sure proper songs from proper bands count in this discussion...
Wrong wrong wrong. Brimming over with wrongability.
Here we have the coolest choon of the coolest soundtrack of the coolest game franchise bar none. The original GTA theme:

This one takes me back
Xenon2. Thread finished..
It's clearly pretty much any of of the Sonic level tunes.
But then in terms of a good musical score, it's probably the Mass Effect series:
http://kotaku.com/5923741/tracing-the-musical-saga-of-mass-effect
Can't beat a bit of Huelsbeck
I remember the title music from Micro machines on the mega drive getting well jazzy if you let it roll for a few minutes.
from GT2. I'm not sure it's on this version, but the sound of the cars at full chat at the end, and the smell of the clutch, brakes, hot oil and tyres from the scratch and sniff disc (no really!) makes me long for winter evenings with no kids to interrupt a 3 hour race!

special edition? Don't remember mine having SnS, I is highly dubious.and the smell of the clutch, brakes, hot oil and tyres from the scratch and sniff disc
them were the days 😕makes me long for winter evenings with no kids to interrupt a 3 hour race!
GT intros were always very good.
Here it is...
Well, there's one or two good suggestions here, but the combination of late nights, booze, mates, takeaway pizza and THE best driving game EVER means this is the top contender for me
or possibly this
" A dream ticket to play while taking drugs"
happy days........
Need for Speed - BT Kimosabe
Nice try all - however you are all wrong I give you...
Bought my kid Skate 3 and was rather impressed with the soundtrack:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skate_3
Pixies, Doom, Joy Division, Johnny Thunders, etc..
I don't think you can beat that, although I wouldn't know as thats as far as my computer game knowledge goes I'm afraid.
Rollcage!! Good heavens. I was starting to think that I was the only person that'd ever heard of that.
It's this, obviously.
Going a bit off piste I know but it seems that there was a PC version of Rollcage. It's abandonware, supports the Xbox 360 game pad, and can be had here. Stage II is on that site as well.
Happy days.
Being at work I can't post a vid, so, just imagine I posted Aeris's Theme from Final Fantasy 7, and then you all agreed.
(other FF7 tunes are available, the main outdoors theme is ace too)
Nope, you're all wrong.
Clearly this:
My respectful suggestion. Even more impressive 30 years later when you consider the limitations of the hardware...

Great thread. My fave from my youth was Cybernoid 2 on the Amstrad CPC. This is just the music, couldn't find a video of just the title screen
Playing this one through at the moment. Lovely orchestral suite fused with old songs.

Clearly this:
Correct.
Ooh, I know. How about:
"Still Alive" from the end of Portal.
top 100 games "in no particular order"Turns out we're all incorrect.
eh? You can't post a top 100 then not do it in order.
Rollcage, hmm sure I had that on ps1, don't remember playing it tho.
RE: Ken's theme. According to the composer, she had seen Top Gun, but hadn't deliberately ripped it off.
Xenon 2, Monkey Island and Portal all get props from me.
But for sheer bleepy goodness that's been in my head on and off for 20+ years:
If you like the theme from Tetris, then try this hardcore version played on accordian:

Cox - Hardcordian - Tetris theme
and if you like that, do check out The triumphant march of Piaf.

Bioshock - brilliant soundtrack suiting a brilliant game like a glove.
Castlevania IV (Title music) on Super Famicom (SNES) gets my vote though.
i have to apologise in my original post i should have added a wink smilie.
was joking tbh about the daytona music (i do love it's ott vocals though 🙂
Very long easy left maybe!

Ooh, I know. How about:
Prefer the sequel myself.
First thoughts when i read the title were Chiller on C64 (really bad Thriller rip off) which was nothing special, but i remember the music over 30 years later so it was doing something right. Agony on the Amiga 500 is another that's hard to forget.
We've got the Portal: Still Alive song covered by the London Philharmonic Orchestra; it's brilliant!
We had a tune from Skyrim played during our wedding, which was nice.
Although I'm surprised no-one has suggested this:
WAR!
Being over 40, any computer music has to be actual music generated by the computer.
I grew up on the C64 so all those mentioned so far are classics - especially Crazy Commets.
Also like the below.
I'm amazed this thread has got so far and no-one has mentioned:
Which is just bonkers. No intro for a game has ever set the game up so wonderfully. I mean, listen to it- I'm cruising Liberty City in my mind, right now....
R-type or IK+
Cannon fodder would be my answer but this is a bit of a favourite too:
