I just want something for my dad to have a play with.
Mainly scrabble and video calls.
Probably, but cheap tablets are way better than they used to be.
That one appears to have no internal memory.
Spend a bit more and go for a Hudl. Very good reviews for a nice cheap tablet.
any particular reason to pick on with the extra expense of GSM/DUal SIM hardware?
WiFi only is usually sufficient for most people with a wireless router at home.
Havent got time to assess that one properly, but something to really check for is Google Play compatability.
Fashionable appearance, all-white piano baking varnish craft, ultra-thin body, touches well;
Hudl is all sold out.
They don't have internet but he does currently have a hundred pound credit on his phone as he always tops up and never uses it.
Plan was that they would get the hang of it and then get wifi.
No internal memory what does that mean in real life? (Computer Luddite alert)
Does that mean you have to put a memory card in it?
Would you feel safer going for something like this?
Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 from Carphone Warehouse
Or the Hudl?

I think I would, but then if I could research it enough to feel confident, then the cheaper one might be ok.
Hudl is all sold out.
Yes, but would probably be back in stock before you got the one from Deal Extreme
Memory card are usually just to increase storage space, though for all I know you might be able to allocate some of that for internal memory use (android experts?)
That seem very low spec, single core vs dual or quad core alternatives.
I'd suggest a non GSM tablet and a Mifi device to put his sim into Mifi device (example) - though this may require you to unlock the mifi for his sim...
The galaxy above looks good and will definitely be sorted for Christmas. Ta.
