I've just been asked
"why's it called the Large Hadron Collider, is there a Small Hadron Collider?"
I can't find the answer from a quick Google search, please help?
Because it can smash together large hadrons?
It's the biggest one.
I met an engineer once who was working on a smaller version of one for either oxford or Cambridge, it was to be used as a microscope iirc by smashing atoms down to their composite parts, or something like that?

That would be the "Largest Hadron Collider".
Small hadron lightly-jiggler?
Ninja edit. It's not a hardon.
No.
Technically any particle accelerator that uses hadrons is a hadron collider
The Tevatron was a smaller particle accelerator that displayed Hadrons.
CERN is planning to start building the Super Large Hadron Collider soon, and talking about designing a Very Large Hadron Collider after that.
The instruments keep getting bigger to study ever smaller things.

Not yet, but when this Imodium wears off there will be.
You not getting any better fella?
I'm more or less fine tbh, recovering well. My diabetic friend however has ended up hospitalised, mainly as a precautionary due to excessive dehydration.
He should be fine, but I've texted him I want first dibs on his bike wheels.
You not getting any better fella?
Your probably referring to my humour aren't you 🙁
That would be the "Largest Hadron Collider".
A scientist would never call it the "largest" anything, as it would have to be renamed when they build the next one.
Mtfu then 🙂
😀

I wont be Happy till they have the super mega massive one.
The Super Mega Massive Monster Collider? Scheduled for construction in 2327 and will require a spare planet for the site.
That's just asking for black holes.
