I've somehow scored 10/12.

I'm not even that much of a fan, I'm quite pleased with that.

11/12 didn't know which planet the Wookies came from.

I thought it was a bit easy could've made it harder. I like Star Wars but wouldn't consider my self as a Star Wars nerd or super fan.

What are parsecs anyway?

It's a unit of distance. So either the Kessell Run involves some sort of metric where the shortest distance to completion is desirable, or Han's talking shit.

As best as I can piece together, the original idea behind the line was that Han was talking fancy-sounding nonsense that he thought would impress what he believed to be a couple of yokels.

However as is often the way of these things the Kessel Run has been expanded on by the Star Wars expanded universe and apparently involves something like travelling between moving locations in a navigationally hazardous area of space, so doing it in a short distance is the same as doing it quickly. Or something.

So both of Cougar's suppositions are correct. 🙂

I knew the character was played by Samuel L Jackson so simply employed racial stereotyping to get the answer. 🙂

So both of Cougar's suppositions are correct.

It was nothing more than a mistake, the original films have a couple of odd little plot holes and such - and the die-hard fans have a habit of filling in the blanks later.

George Lucas or whoever wrote that part of the screenplay that day used "Parsec" because it sounded good, 'part second' I assume he thought it meant - 20 years later when the kids who watched it the first time wanted to know what it was found out it was a unit of distance and came up with the varying theories because it's easier than just assuming it was a mistake.

One of the great things about the original 3 films was they gave enough 'ammo' for viewers to get a sense this huge galaxy of solar systems and planets all full of weird and wonderful stuff, the 'expanded universe' if you can do that, then the Kessell Run can be whatever you need it to be to fill the hole.

They did the same thing for the time line too. If you believe the hype Lucas had this huge 9 film epic all in his head in 75/76 and he chose to make the middle 3 because he thought it would be the easiest to sell - (interestingly it was 6 originally, they only bumped it to 9 about 10 years ago) - but Star Wars was just 'Star Wars' when it came out in 77, and Empire was just Empire when it came out in 80 - 'IV A New Hope' and 'V' until they made the home releases in 82 - it was a genius way to make the story seem far bigger than what you saw on screen. If you only watch the films you don't learn that much, all the mythology came later.

If it was any of the other Goodies I'd struggle, some are green, some are blue (Baddies are always Red) without any real reason why - but Mace's is Purple because SLJ asked for it to be Purple.

Tim Brooke-Taylor's is blue obviously. Bill Oddie's was green.

See, I've "always known" that there was supposed to be nine films, and the intention was to do the middle three, then the first three, then the last ones. Gods only know where (or when) this knowledge came from, presumably some magazine or TV documentary or something?

This is definitely wrong. As a kid I knew about the 9-film sequence idea, and when Dave Prowse talked to my school in 1987 (while I was in P7) he mentioned it too.

Even more interesting was how we then knew it was a 9 film franchise in the playground in the early 80's, 20 years before. Makes you think!

edit: must be the same effect that stopped me from seeing the above post before I posted.

No, they had to stop what they were doing, look at Dave and listen to what he had to say.

He did indeed visit in his role as the Green Cross Code Man, though he had obviously learnt long before that he'd be mauled by a bunch of angry kids if he didn't say something about Star Wars while he was there.

Dave Prowse

I didn't realise until recently, but he (along with other British actors such as R2 and C3) was cast to get around union issues with filming in England but having American actors.
