I think it's now Freegle - the Edinburgh group keeps spamming me under that name.

Al,

Freecycle is still going but has changed how they operate (no longer Yahoo Mail Groups in some/all places). The NI ones are here: http://www.freecycle.org/group/UK/Northern%20Ireland

However, my experience is that people bugger you about on freecycle (either taking it and flogging it on, or not turning up to collect etc). We have a much better hit rate getting rid of stuff on Gumtree with a low price and explicitly saying your really just want rid of it.

Also look on Yahoo Groups - the Harrogate Freecycle is on one.

Sorry, quick hijack

Does anyone use Preloved to buy and sell stuff ?
I set up an account to sell off a few things and they have sent an email to say they will phone my home number with a pin number and I have to log in and use that to verify my account details. Is this normal as seems a bit ott and I've not had to do that with Gumtree.

Probably normal but just a bit paranoid about giving away remote access to my pc.

That verified account thing does seem a bit OTT.

I just use Gumtree for getting rid of stuff. I have done it free but have been messed about on occasion.

I offered something for free on Gumtree once and had someone reply asking if I would deliver it 50 miles away as well !

Preloved registration update....I clicked on the "phone me" button and received an automated call with the pin number but did not do anything with it.Today I've had a letter with a different pin number for me to enter. They seem quite keen that's for sure.

Mm, shame - free seems to mean 'free to mess you about' to some folk. Might try selling a few bits really cheap and see if it's any better.

I've never had any issue with freegle, got rid of loads when we were clearing out prior to moving house, have picked up one or two things myself recently too
