What time does the apple thing start today British time?
1800GMT
Not sure but they are usually late afternoon
Edit: beaten to it
I'm not too sure I'd get that excited - I can't see any major changes being presented other than a new screen and a faster processor.

Yeah potentially a quadrupling of the number of pixels on the screen.. nothing too exciting.. 😀
I think dropped price iPad2 will be the one to get post the announcement
rumour has it that the pad3 will be a higher price, so the 2 probably wont drop much.

Agreed - I'm going through Heathrow on 19th March. I'm hoping to pick up a discounted iPad 2.

Rumour I heard was that there will be a lower capacity "budget" iPad 2 available, much the same as they did with the iPhone.

Exactly.... Don't get it really - but maybe I will when I see one.
Well works for me.
If they do go "HD"/Retina - and they back it up with a decent enough CPU/GFX chip to cope with it - without killing the battery life - then I think I'll finally be sold on getting one.
I've not see a HD screen on a phone/pad so that's my reason for not really getting it - but over the last 12 months with our ipad2 at no time have I ever thought that the screen wasn't good enough or the processor was slow.
Change for change sake I think. I look forward to being proved wring though!
Well, I'd say that I thought the original screen on the iPhone was plenty good enough till the iPhone 4 arrived.
I'm used to it now, so going back to the "blocky" display on 3GS or iPad 1/2 feels like a big step backwards.
If you've seen the difference in display between iPhone 3 and 4 then you'll get it.
If I used an iPhone 3GS after using a 4 I notice the screen is very poor in comparison, but oddly I don't notice when using an iPad.

Fair enough!
🙂
yep same here , mrs has a 3 - its terrible like looking at an 8bit computer game compared to my 4 - but i cant say i noticed it on the ipad - but then prior to the ipad i was using an asus eeepc701 and that screen was like a cavemans painting !
They're suggesting haptic feedback on Macrumors … that could be good.
haptic feedback
That does sound most interesting
weird that there has been no haptic feedback on it before - it's been on phones for a while.
I'm awaiting the news with baited breath, I am keen on the idea of an ipad3 - maybe.
Looks good. Will be standard issue at work now. Happy days...
Meh.
Unimpressed with my iPad 2 shall start doing some research into an android tablet
That screen is going to be lush!
I want one.

Well, if someone ditches a perfectly good iP2 just to say they've got the 3, well, you may be correct, but if they've got an iP1, or don't have one at all, then this is a major upgrade.
Meh.

Good luck with that then. Be sure to let us know when you find something that vaguely matches an iP2, 'cos you won't find anything anywhere close to an iP3, or the app iLife suite, or GarageBand, or a great many other apps.
Strange thing to say CZ. Maybe he doesn't care for any of those apps, which might be why he's underwhelmed.
Would quite like one but not really a great imperative to upgrade from my iPad2. The only time when I notice wanting more resolution is reading ebooks, which I rarely do at the moment. I've seen the difference between iPhone 3 and 4 screens and it's not as big as everyone is making out I don't think.
I don't really think the iPad is a good form factor to hold for taking pictures/video etc so I'm not too bothered about the upgraded camera.
(trying to convince myself I don't want one 😉 )
I have never owned one and was going to treat myself to a 3 but now I am thinking a cut price 2 will be pretty much as good.
If I hadn't already drunk the Apple-flavoured KoolAid then I'd be tempted by the Transformer Infinity based on those specs.
Provided it's a Decepticon of course.

Specsavers?
Specsavers?
+1
Specsavers?
Well yeah my eyesight isn't that great tbf. 🙂
I can see if you've been using the iPhone 4 for a while then go back to a 3 it's going to seem crap in comparison, but I've not been blown away when I've used a 4.
Have the two's been reduced yet then?

I was when I first started using it. To be able to see this whole site zoomed right out on a 9cm screen yet still be able to read the text was quite impressive.
These days I'm used to it, but I tend to notice how crappy other display are by comparison.

POSTED 9 HOURS AGO # REPORT-POST
Yes - base model down to £329 from £399
Anybody do trade ins? Ipad 2 for 3?
Does it have built in SD/microSD slot, and standard microUSB? (Beeb article is a bit vague in that respect, so I assume not)
Any news on the iPad4 yet?

if by vague you mean doesnt mention it at all then youd be right ....

I'm surprised some people still think this is going to happen at some time. It hasn't and will never happen with the iPad and frankly I can see no reason why it should.
to get the photos from my camera to tablet without having to buy and carry about an array of extras from the Apple catalogue.
Viewing photos IS one of the main selling points they use.

by an "array of extras" do you mean the one small adapter that you can also get from third parties? 😐
I take it by "an array of extras" you mean one small adapter?
(Edit: beaten to it)
I've posted plenty regarding the iPad and external connections 😉
Looking around at the w/e and the smallest Macbook Air thingy looks to do all the things that I'd like to have seen on the iPad...
Small and compact form factor. Suitable functionality for what I want (or more accurately, what i don't want - lugging a cumbersome laptop around)
But that was 800 quid 😯
