Just upgraded my 6s to the latest iOS...
Other than FB asking to use Blue tooth, it all seems pretty similar.
What new features am I missing?
Updated my SE a few days ago, it feels a bit quicker. I quite like the dark mode so that has been the only major change I noticed.

Does that change on the fly at all, or just a one off config?
Swipey keyboard is good
Significant updates to CarPlay and Maps in addition to Dark Mode, there are also loads of less important smaller updates. FaceID is bit faster too.
Overall nice update but somewhat lacking in amazing features.
See Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha for crazy innovation, probably not very useful but whole phone business needs to be rebooted.

not done the upgrade yet but my understanding is it's a system setting, you have to manually enable it (same as OSX) unlike Night Shift.Does that change on the fly at all, or just a one off config?
Dark mode can be set to change automatically (sunset to sunrise or timed) or set permanently.

An apple update that makes the phone quicker? unheard of.

That is lovely. But as you say, for what benefit? Perhaps looking so damn SciFi is enough.

You can look at yourself in the mirror looking at your phone on your phone in the mirror on your phone.

As above, you can have it permanently set, or based on local timezone.
Scheduled shortcuts / automation looks handy-ish not sure yet.
Currently enjoying a free trial on Arcade too, I might have been suckered into paying the sub already.

I just think they need to pump out crazy models to break the current status quo, can't believe that current designs are best there can be.
it always bugs me (for about a second, then I just think, if you have no imagination it's your loss not mine 😂) when people see a technological innovation and their first is reaction is "why?"That is lovely. But as you say, for what benefit?
I saw a post earlier that it can now automatically send a text based on certain conditions e.g. send a text to say you got to work/left work
That could be useful for letting people know where you are automatically!
Minor thing but I really like the new volume change display. No more big box in the middle of the screen but a nice little bar next to the buttons.
FaceID is blazing fast now, you really notice it for in-app things like authenticating LastPass.

Yep, and not true for my SE. It seems a bit slower, for example when pressing delete button on email it seems to stall. Never did that before.
I would also down that the purposes of the upgrade was to make the SE run faster. I imagine the SE won't even be getting the next major update.
not an immediate fan of options like 'mark as unread' (which I use a lot) being moved and taking more click/scroll to get to. But at least its not so close to 'move to junk' as it used to be 🙂
I’m not going to find out! Looked last night my iPhone 6 or ipad air won’t he getting ios13!!
I'm loving iOS13 on my SE here. Photo editing is light years ahead of 12 - to the extent that I've not used Snapseed or Lightroom Mobile since the upgrade.
Autoplay videos is nice, as is the ability to colour edit videos which (I think) is new.
Good new sharing menu for pics and files etc.

The last version of 12 made my 8 pretty buggy, 13 is only about as quick as 12 was a few months ago IMHO.
For me:
Car Play is better, but it's another push towards using Apple Maps over the superior Google Maps as the new front page interface only works with maps (unless there's a setting I can't see).
Apple Pay seems to have stopped working, automatically at least anyway.
Siri no longer seems to be able to hear me via my car mic.
Dark mode is cool, but not all apps have a dark mode to go with it. Rather than making the display just darker, it actually makes the colours 'pop' more and looks really good.
I moaned about the childish Meoji / emoji whatever it's called, but then I designed one and I've used it. Mrs and eldest asked if they didn't have a grey hair option. ****s.
App updates is sort of hidden away now, I know I shouldn't car as it's all automated, but I have a compulsion to update.
Find my Friends and Find my Phone have been combined. Makes some sense, but I use the same feature for different reasons and it doesn't work as was as the previous two.
I haven't used 'Shortcuts' don't know what it does and will likely bin it off with some of the other bloaty stuff.
Just updated on my iPhone 7 128GB.
Battery life takes a hit initially for 2 days or so. Something to do with the phone performing a more thorough indexing of all items for search. Actually checking my battery performance its at 75% at the moment so that might have exacerbated the issue for me.
Addicted to mini motorway on apple arcade while i use the free trial.
You can set Safari to automatically close tabs after a day, week or month now - avoids holding hundreds of them in memory.
Oddly the scan document function seems to have moved from Notes to Files, (just to confuse you)
Seems ok for me, just done the iPhone.
What I hate though...and hate is a strong word... is once it's set up you have to go through the sodding set-up screens...
I say No! I know what the phone does thanks, don't need any of your "add emoji face" horsecrap.
You can track any lost or stolen phones even when they are powered down.

Really???
That's going to come as a big surprise to my Son, who likes to turn his phone off when he's roaming where he shouldn't ha ha.
Safari has a download manager now. PDF for example don’t auto open. Default save is files I think but can be changed.
Can deal with zipped files too.
It has partially broke the Bluetooth functionality with my car. Can stream but can no longer access phone book etc although will still answer/end calls.
two best things so far, swipey keyboard seems better than gmails gboard and the volume control display is now discreet instead of a huge box in middle of screen.
IOS 13.1 bug fixes and improvements has been released 🙂
You can let selected contacts track you via find my iPhone. This is ideal if your riding alone.
Took me ages to figure out how to save a photo from messages!
Plus they've moved "move to folder" in email.....

Same but with ‘request desktop site’. No longer a long press on the reload icon you press the ‘AA’ now for a new context menu.
Music has had a few tweaks too.

It's a good feature. It used to be called Find my Friends. I can track my Wife, Son and Riding Buddy with mine and vice versa. It's Useful for Solo rides for me and my mate, tracking my Wife when she's making house calls and my Son because, well he's a teenager and a bit of a Div.
Haven’t found much else new TBH. Probably worth looking on YouTube for the geeks views and tips/tweaks.
I did notice that Bluetooth was “on” even though I turned it off.
Can’t find the keyboard thingy ^ this one I’m using now looks the same as before.
Just drag your finger between the characters. I had this feature on a Samsung many years ago. Not sure why Apple have only just caught up.
U to tutu up d hill fisheries.
Yay! It works !!
👍
Since I got IOS 13 I can't get photos to sync with my pc.
Co-incidence?
Experiencing a bug where some apps dock icons just don't work! Need to find the app icon on the home screen to switch to the app!
The swipe keyboard means I’ve been able go delete Gboard. Although it’s not quite as accurate as gboard, there’s no lag where the phone used to forget which keyboard I wanted to use.
Haven’t played with the new CarPlay yet as haven’t been in the right car.
I don’t think much else will make a difference to me though.
Happy that a 6S is still getting updates, only recently moved from android where support would often stop completely not long after 2 years.
Anyone know how to change what’s at the top of the share pop up?
So now when I click share on a photo or to share a link etc the first line (where I think it used to show available AirDrop devices) now has the last 3 contacts from the messaging app, which I hardly ever use. Currently showing my Roughcaster, a guy I met on a work course and an automated messaging system.
Long tap on the Wi-Fi / Bluetooth Icons in the control centre to choose Networks / Devices to connect to instead of having to go into settings to do this.
RM.
Tried out new CarPlay today - really like the improvements.
tbh I used to be a big Waze fan and was really happy when it finally came to CarPlay - but Apple Maps has improved massively over the last year or so and I do like it now. Waze is just constant alerts about stuff and often convoluted routing just to save you a minute over sitting in a queue.
The Automations thing looks potentially useful, if a little geekish
I think battery life is definitely worse now. Had been quite good recently...
As far as I can tell my battery life is just as crap as usual, no worse though on a 6S
I haven’t noticed much on the phone, but I like the iPad update: better home screen, much better multitasking, floating keyboard, screen extension for Mac, etc.
footflaps
Battery life is often worse after a major update. Your phone will be doing a lot of work in the background getting everything in order. It should get better in a couple of days.
