I want to give my old phone to a family member, my old service provider gave me the unlock code and I can now use any sim card. Internet works on WIFI, but I can't get GPRS internet to work.

I was expecting a flurry of text messages when I used a different sim card for the first time which would have set the phone up correctly, but on T-Mobile I had nothing, Vodafone sent a single message stating to 'save the following message using pin 1234' the closest thing to saving is 'copy to sim' which doesn't need a pin.

Both sim cards tried are from 3g handsets, phone doesn't support that but I was assuming it would just use 2g settings, could that be the problem? I also tried entering the Vodafone settings manually ( http://www.knowyourmobile.com/info/1310/use_our_internet_setting_chart_to_setup_email_and_the_internet_on_your_mobile.html) but that doesn't appear to work either. (I left the DNS fields blank as the above link didn't say what to enter there)

Any help much appreciated 🙂

(For the techies in case it makes a difference...Its an BT branded HTC S620 that I had previously 'flashed' to a Windows Mobile 6.5 custom/hacked ROM, I just spent three hours tricking it into allowing me to revert back to a standard (non-BT) HTC ROM using WM5 as WM6.5 won't prompt for the unlock code)

No ideas? When I put the Vodafone sim back into its normal phone it immediately received a load of internet settings via text.

The Vodafone settings will not work as it will be Vodafone specific gateway addresses. Phone t-Mobile and get them to send the settings by SMS, or go on to their website and look them up

Edit - does the phone actually work? Going back to WM 5 is pretty drastic. If it could run 6.5 I assume it was 6.0 originally so may not properly support 5

Thanks. The phone was WM5 I believe, but the BT software that came on it had bumped it up to WM6.1. That ROM isn't available any more so I went to a generic one for the phone. If all else fails I will upgrade to WM6.1 but I really wanted it back to stock settings as the person I'm giving it to won't want to be messing around fixing buggy issues. It was only running 6.5 due to someone making a custom/hacked ROM to make it work.

Wouldn't the Vodafone settings work when the Vodafone sim card is installed? I was a bit surprised when all the messages were received when the card went back into its original phone, almost as if the HTC wasn't able to receive them so they just sat there undelivered until we put the sim card back into the old phone.
