Go on then http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-11223457 what do we think any worse than burning a US, ****stan, Indian, Israeli, British flag? Or just the BBC reporting news to s**t stir?

The trouble is that now it is news so the BBC should report it. Of course whoever started out giving the nutter publicity could well be questioned - presumably one of the US media outlets.

Personally I think it is less worse as I relate to my flag(s) more than any book, but I'm still not that bothered when I do see my flag in flames.

Don't they have a law in the US similar to the inciting racial hatred that we have?

EDIT: But then again reporting on that could be seen as inciting racial hatred on behalf of the Beeb?

Admiralable - no idea but there are a couple of US forum members, who might answer.

what makes me so angry is that he is burning a religious text to send a message to the extreme elements of that religion. which makes him an extreme element so in turn one would, by his logic, be justified in burning the bible in protest at him.

which, no doubt, would wind him up a bit so why doesn't he see it that way?

Surely it is international repost day?

If they simply report the facts and can't be shown to be deliberately skewing the reporting (eg by not reporting a similar situation where bibles were being burnt) then they'll be fine.

Book burning seems like a lot of bother, got to find a Koran for starters, I've just run out of matches..... Can't I just delete something on my Kindle?

Couldn't Pastor Terry Jones just start a facebook group? its a much more convenient way of expressing some sort of outrage about something or other and the BBC are just as likely to report on it, so it'd be win win.

The only thing remarkable about the story is the Pastor Terry Jones's church barely has a congregation, yet his unpleasantness gets a global audience and will be seen in foreign fields as in someway typical of the American population. Much in the same way of a rent-a-crowd always seem to have a flag to hand (who sells them) in Afganistan whenever a news crew happens to turn up. And we a left to assume that level of irrational hatred is just day to day there.

Not that CNN would hire local extras and hand them props for a news item, ohh no, that doesn't happen ever.

Simple answer - send the pastor and his supporters to evangelise in Afghanistan.

Seeing as god is on his side, then he won't need any support and all the muslims will listen to him. If he's not confident enough to do that, then maybe he shouldn't be burning their holy book. 🙂

Did everyone else miss this bit right at the bottom then ?

The story later turned out to be false and was retracted by the magazine.

Do you have to actually own the Koran that you burn, or could you steal one first?

What does Islam have to do with race?

If you think people from, say, Northern Europe are just as likely to be Muslims as people from, say, the Middle East then I suppose nothing.

Did Tony Blair write the Koran then, now that would be a good reason .

If he did he would probably lie about it.

The Children Of Abraham are all one race, and are Christian, Jewish and Muslim. He could be cited for inciting religeous hatred, certainly, but not racial. A common mistake, like an Irishman complaining that Irish jokes are racist.

Obviously religion != race, but clearly there's a correlation.

This guy has got the whole world in a tiss, couldnt have worked out better for him I imagine.

But arent we all justs a bit bored of hearing about muslims now? Muslim this, muslim that, there here, their there, their every .... were, lalalala and on and on.
I'm just fed up of the word and the ridiculous women in tents and blokes in sandals and their precious bloody beliefs. Lets be honest if they werent so sensitive, idiots like this guy wouldnt be a story.

It was vaguely intresting when they flew airplanes into buildings, now its just like the irish in the 90's, you just want them to grow up so we can have something else in the news.

If someone said they were going to burn a load of books on buddism, seihkism or capitalism its not gonna be a story.

C'mon Mohamed stop crying and mtfu.

I bet the printing company must be happy if everyone buys a copy just to burn it. 😆 I mean just reprint the book so what's the big deal? Unlike the dynamiting of The Buddhas of Bamyan which are gone forever. A lost heritage. Didn't see anyone gone ape shite or burning flags etc. 🙄

I think I've got a spare Koran somewhere in the garage. I'll dig it out, photograph it, put it on classified section for £250 (paypal is ok) 😀

The congregation is only just 50, yet they have several hundred copies of the book, have they been collecting them for sometime, or should have someone at Amazon thought it a little strange when such a sizeable order comes through?

tails - maybe you should burn copies of the Radio Times in protest at the BBC's repeated insistence of reporting news which everyone else is reporting...........that'll learn them.

that was about the article in Newsweek magazine

further lives were lost in Afghan riots in 2005 when Newsweek magazine printed a story alleging that US interrogators at Guantanamo Bay had flushed a copy of the Koran down a toilet.

The story later turned out to be false and was retracted by the magazine.
