New Smeg induction hob fitted yesterday, but I'm not 100% it's working correctly.
Putting on setting 9 works fine (constant power), but anything less than setting 9 cycles on and off every four seconds or so to keep the temperature.
My mate on WhatsApp says this is normal, but an Online thread is not so reassuring.
Anyone able to assuage my worries?
If it makes a ticking sound on anything less than 9, than it’s the same as our smeg induction hob. Not sure if the ticks are every four seconds, without checking.
Ours freaks out if we try to run more than two rings at full power too.
That's normal in all the ones I've used, it's just regulating the temperature by turning off and on
You can see the bubbles appear for five seconds, then cease, then appear, then cease
Don’t think I’ve ever noticed that tbh.
Yeah, perfectly normal for induction. Tesla switch (not the car) does the same. If not it would overheat and consume serious power and frazzle whatever is on top. It’s way hotter than gas.
Doesn’t sound great TBH. I know induction hobs pulse at low/medium temps but in the 8 years we’ve had our Siemens one I can’t say I’ve really noticed it. Strangely I can only audibly detect anything at all on boost (9 plus setting) where it’s really going for it where you can hear it doing something.
Our Sky Q box on the other hand.. sweet Jesus it sounds like the supercharger on a hellcat that thing.
I've just installed induction from Gas, it's amazing, heats pans up sooo quick..
@tenfoot when you say it freaks out, will it turn some spaces off, if so might want to check that it's had the 2phase wire Bridge put in as without it will stop drawing too much power to protect it and the in oming feed. I've got a very beefy feed to mine as its all new wiring..
I’ve got an induction hob at home and never see this there. I’ve seen it at a holiday home though and I’m not sure if it’s down to the hob or the pans. I assume that the pulsing will be more noticeable with cheaper pans that have thin bases, but am not sure.
It's pretty normal.
We've got two induction hobs a rather spendy Neff and a "cheap" Baumatic.
The Neff never pulses but the Baumatic does.
They both do the same thing at the end of the day, but non-pulsing is nicer.
OK thanks folks. Good to know it's not going to explode on me
