Got a notification to self book an appointment with PCT.

Would it be anything to do with arthritic conditions as I am meant to be being referred to them but there are a few things going on at the moment?

Cheers guys.

Primary Care Trust.
Alternatively...poop, crap, turd; they don't have any obvious connection with arthritic conditions but I'm not a medico.

Ah, a red herring then.

I thought it stood for a department name or such. Doh!

Seek clarification - (round my way) there's no mechanism for booking "with" a PCT (assuming frank is correct).  They're not truly clinical; more organisational

Was it a letter / text / email ? ie could it be spam?

PCT’s don’t exist anymore and haven’t don’t for about 10 years. Their latest incarnation is a CCG - Clinical Commissioning Group

They don’t get involved in direct healthcare, only patient complaints etc

edit:

just found this. have you got a family member needing care ?

Round here we are still trying to work out what an ICB is/does 😂

Us too. One of my Partners is a CD on the board of the ICB that has replaced the CCG, and beyond handing out the top paying roles (natch) they seem not to know what it is they do, are are supposed to do.

Poop, "a" PCT hasn't existed for some time, but it may be a TLA that refers to your local hospital perhaps? the Something Something Trust?

Poop Confusing Term?

As someone who briefly worked in NHS Communications, it's a perfect example of how much they love their three letter acronyms, and are totally blind to the fact that the public is clueless about them.

Could be your local Care Partnership Trust, maybe, and someone has transposed the letters?

One of my Partners is a CD

Bit old-fashioned. Surprised he/she hasn't been transferred to the DVD career pathway.

Anyway, we're due another reorganisation, so Poop is better off waiting a couple of weeks, when the new structure and organisational chart will be released.

Beat me to it - but don't forget the ICSs too 😉

ICB...

ICS...

And apparently ICPs too!

All these highly paid people need something to do, so they have all been busy coming up with new names for the same thing.

I think we are on our 4th name for them in our region

my top tip is to keep hold of all your old letterheads and personalised stamps...
PCTs will be back again once the 'circle jerk' is complete...!!!

DrP - I agree, you measure your career in NHS commissioning by how many reorganisations you have been through and how many times you end up going round the circle. It’s a complete waste of time and money

Patient Care Technicians, think its an American term for nurse bank staff. You wouldn’t make an appointment to see them though, even in America.

Yep, giving my age away but also see:
Local Health Authority
Primary Care Group
Primary Care Trust
Clinical Commissioning Group
and now
ICBs
ICNs

Politicians stop re-arranging the deckchairs and give the NHS freedom and funding to make a 15 year plan to be the best and most efficient health care system in the world.
