Moan all you like about Amazon but this is what I call decent customer service. Hard to see Currys surviving and apart from the impact on their staff I wouldn’t be sorry to see them go.
My experience too. I wanted to impulse buy a large TV, so went down to the local Currys. Nice displays loads of choice, but only 1 bargain basement model in stock to take away (without rice or naan) there and then. To actually get one of the models on display would require an addtional £30 delivery fee and a 7 day wait. WTAF? Once the boomers are too infirm to patronise them, they'll be toast!
Alan, that's a great thing to do for your friend.
Last Christmas bloody hard after 38 of them with Carolyn, I was lucky that a friend down the road invited me for a Christmas brunch as I think I would have dehydrated myself from crying otherwise 🙁
This year I'm going to go down to Carolyn's parents and visit her grave and talk rubbish to her?
Fridge Freezer for Gnusmas - anybody with more technical know how than me want to set up a go fund me or whatever they are called? Reckon between us we can raise enough in a few days to get a decent fridge freezer (possibly washing machine) sorted. Christmas spirit and all that. I can’t think of a better way to celebrate the spirit of the season.
Hope you don’t mind Alan? I just think you deserve a ****ing break. I can’t get down to you at the moment or do anything more constructive to help.

To rub more salt in the wounds, I had this email from curry's this morning. Honestly, can't they just update their system and realise they've already cancelled the order? I did have a slight giggle at the nerve of it though.
@MrOvershoot hope you're doing OK through all this. It's not easy at all, my thoughts go out to you too. If you can get to Carmarthen and you don't mind 3 kids running around you'd be more than welcome to join our sombre widow Xmas.
This thread isn't about getting anything from anyone. So much has been done for us all already physically, and emotionally more than you could imagine, I'm not here to take advantage of anyone. While I appreciate the thought and offers, that's not what I'm trying to do. I was just venting at the annoyance of it all. Just another thing to add to the list of crap I'm dealing with. I think everything that's happened has caught up with me and this just tipped me over the edge. After yet another night of no sleep and comforting kids that are emotionally wrecked too, it's just another battle. Thanks again though, I still genuinely and honestly appreciate it all.
Alan there you go again thinking about others. I will get to Carmarthen to see you and the clan, just not at Christmas as I only have 3 days off.
I know what you mean about layers of shit just building up over the small things, my dishwasher has been broken for 18 months now and I have had 3 people supposedly coming round to fix it (I have even told them the fault) but do they turn up do they buggery and I end up wasting time off 🙁
And gnusmas, Samsung or any other spelling of it is fine by me. It’s quite entertaining to see the different ways it gets spelt.
if anyone here has a working fridge to find a home for there might be ways!
Indeed, but I never received a reply as to where Snug Sam actually lives so that one died a bit of a death...
Looking at old posts suggests it may be Carmarthen, which is too far from Manc for me I'm afraid. But the offer is still there if anyone is driving that way in a big vehicle.
funkmasterp - such a good idea.
Has anyone set a page up yet ( I can't do it as I'm a technophobe who can barely work my phone)?
Gnusmas - rant all you want.
Gnusmas lives in Carmarthen.
I live about half way between Carmarthen and Neath.
I have a Berlingo- almost a van.
Can a fridge fit in it? Plus a white bottle of cider?
Funkmasterp - if you set up a page, I’ll stick a few quid in.

All, can I suggest a bit of caution here... Gnus has stated that he doesnt want a fundraiser. He came on here to talk to friends and let off some steam. If, when he does that, someone sets up a GoFundMe then you may well find that he stops posting, which would be a bad thing.
Clearly I might be wrong, and I'll defer to people on the thread who know him much better than I do.
AO, sent a 7.5ton van when we told them specifically not to bring anything larger than 3.5 even after getting verbal and email confirmation that it would be a "small van". Driver drove the truck up the road regardless of the weight limit sign at the bottom and us telling them they wouldn't easily get back out if they did when they called for directions, and they said yeah it's a "small truck"
drivers tried to refuse to take in to the house because there were 2 steps on the path, the delivery order form asks if and how many there are?!
Delivery guys then tried to make us take responsibility for any damage they might cause getting the appliance in...
Previously we had used Appliances direct for an order and they weren't much better, the only way we could get a response from them was a premium rate phone line that kept putting you on hold after connecting you.
Edit
Oh and I had to take the door the house and the garden gate off because of the Chin scratching of delivery guys wanting to leave things curbside even though we have had larger items through both with ease.

Fair point. The last thing I’d want is for him to stop posting.
This is the reason I’ve bought at John Lewis as where we live we get their own delivery drivers who are amazing, they even wear ties and all!!

I genuinely appreciate the sentiment, the thought, the gestures, the offers and all the support I've had from everyone over the past few years. Everyone has gone above and beyond any expectation, not that I had any, when I first joined STW all those years ago. All of you are like family to me.
It's not that I want to be ungrateful, that is far from it. Yes, it would probably be a massive help and yes, it would solve the problem I currently have. But, I don't want to become 'the STW charity case' that everyone groans at every time I start a thread. It's a pretty fine line to be on and I don't want to cross it. I know people don't have to read what I say and that's fine, but I really don't want to alienate myself from anyone if that's what people start thinking.
I am extremely grateful for everything that's already been done for us all. I've even over time begun accepting help, whether it be emotional or physical, thanks to you all. That's not something I easily do and still find difficult. I'd rather help others if I'm able. I'm not saying I won't accept help in the future if I needed it, I'll try my best to do that if and when the time comes. I think It's different someone offering something they already have that they don't want or need rather than actual money, that's the way I look at it.
I will keep posting though, hopefully venting less and more general posts. Even happier and cheery ones, who knows? I hope I don't offend anyone with this, that's not my intention. Just trying to explain (probably badly) what's going on inside my head about it all.
You're not offending anyone. The bits of your posts that really stand out for me is the effort you make helping other people. It's really admirable.
Hang in there.
We ordered a fridge from Currys. I'd made sure there wasn't much in the old one as I know you have to leave the new one to sit for 24hrs before plugging in, unless that's an old wives tale. Anyway, plugged it in and chucked everything in and went to work. Got home and found everything in the freezer defrosted and the fridge wasn't even remotely cold.
Currys didn't have any of the same one left but met me halfway on a different (more expensive) one and gave us £40 to cover the spoiled food. So they aren't completely crap but when they are you know about it.
@gnusmas - No chance of causing offence. You’re part of this community and there are a lot folk who really do deeply care about you and your family. We’ve never met in person, which will be resolved at some point, but that doesn’t matter. You’ve been through a world of shit and posting on here clearly helps you. Keep doing it. If I had the cash I’d buy you a fridge and a washing machine. Not out of charity, just because you deserve any help that can be given. In your position I’d have fallen to bits long ago. It’s testament to you, your love for your kids and your strength of character that you haven’t.
Big hugs and love from the Funk family xx
It's like Hotel California here, gnusmas... You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave... 🙂
Hotel california or Royston vasey?
Depends on what side of the pennines your on😂
You gone full postal on twitter at them? Shit time for a freezer fault.
Hope you get sorted mate
I'm SOoooooo tempted to try to set up a fridge relay. Do we have any STW van owners in Stoke, Birmingham, Worcester, Newport?
I've given the fridge another clean and mopped all the water up so should it will be fine for a few weeks til new year now, fingers crossed. While I was doing that, if you're ready for this, the washing machine made a hell of a bang. Then I had to go to the other side of the house because the noise was so bad while it was spinning. I'm sitting here laughing, not that it's funny, but it's just my sodding luck. You honestly couldn't make this up, no one would believe it.
Yes you do have to leave a fridge that has been lying on its side vertical and switched off for 12hrs or so.
Its the oil in the refrigeratant compressor that has to be in the sump not up in the piston, crankcase area or they can hydraulic apparently and go boom
I'm bolton n can run down the m6 if anyones further south than me can meet me on the 6 stafford of a touch further

Jeez, what a shambles they are. Black Fri deal would have to be amazing to make me go back to them, honouring the deal or not!
Well, our oven crossed the line on Christmas day. I logged on to Currys (I get a work discount) on Saturday evening about 5pm, I could have had one delivered Sunday morning! I did some more research though which took me til 8pm ish so I ended up with a Monday delivery.
And they called and it came when they said it would. However when they unpacked it despite the box being undamaged the front door was smashed. Who knows why - Samsung warehouse, manufacturing fault in tempered glass, dunno. But the delivery guy took responsibility, sat there and called Samsung and HO to arrange another one for tomorrow. Can't fault that.
