In the grand scheme of things and with everything else going on I know this is a pretty minor thing. But this, on top of everything else I've had to deal with this year, and covid on top of that too, it's completely done me in.
I mentioned in a past thread that the fridge, freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer were all slowly giving up the ghost. I bit the bullet and ordered a relatively cheap American style fridge freezer on offer just before black friday. Pretty decent make down from £650 to £380. Only reason I bought it here was the price, managed to get interest free credit too which is what prompted me to get it.
My fridge is completely knackered. Things going mouldy inside, leaking water (definitely only water), broken shelves etc. Freezer has a broken hinge but can sort of be opened and drawers inside are all broken too. Been putting up with these for over a year so when this deal came up I though I'd replace both in one hit.
Delivery of it turned up yesterday morning as scheduled, at 8:00am, great, but it wouldn't fit up the steps into the house. They said i could pay for a doors off delivery (an extra £45) where they would remove the doors, bring it all into the house and rebuild in situ. Unexpected cost but would solve the problem. I said Ok. They told me it would be taken back to the warehouse and wait there for me to pay. They assured me it was mine and would definitely be kept for me as I'd already paid for it. He also said he would input all this onto his system straight away so head office would know what's going on, brilliant.
As soon as the kids went to school I rang the number. When I eventually got through they told me I would have to ring back tomorrow as the system updates overnight, but once its updated they could sort it out for me.
I ring this morning as advised and eventually got through. I gave all the details, then came the problem. I was told the order had been cancelled and the fridge freezer had already been sold and allocated to someone else! Explained everything to them that happened and what the driver said for them to tell me that there was no more stock anywhere. But I could purchase another one (at a now much higher price) which would be in stock on the 29th December and delivery would be arranged once it was in stock. I told them to forget it and to just leave it as cancelled. Then I had an email through saying the order had been cancelled at my request! WTF? Thanks a fing bunch Curry's you complete bunch of a**es.
Yet another thing to add to my lists of punishments for trying to help myself and make things better for all of us. Irrational, yes but can I help it, unfortunately no. Sitting here in tears, stupid I know. Why does everything, no matter how big or small, always happen to me? Doesn't the universe think I've had enough to deal with? Now I need to somehow get on and sort Xmas out so the kids hopefully will have a half decent one this year. I just want to scream and shout and throw and break things. Completely. Had. Enough.
Ouch.. Not stupid, human. I feel a scrap of your pain. You are allowed to scream and shout on here as much as you feel able to. Even to the point where you're 'ick. just make sure you keep coming on here and taking it out on us.
Ring customer services and explain what happened, keep escalating it until you are happy with the response. Twitter can help highlight issues to the company in a more public way too.
Mate, keep on at Currys, they made a mistake and they need to know.
Bloody hell Gnumas! You do get the shitty end of the stick sometimes. Rant away mate.
I'd be fuming too. I would be asking for the same again delivered for the price agreed before. Escalate it if necessary. Failing that frozen sausages, koalas, wee etc.
I am trying to find the CEOs (Jan Kowal) email address but cannot find it. We should all email explaining what has happened to Samsung over the last two years and how their shoddy company has added to his mental health issues.
This is all I can find so far though...
As the convention appears to be [customer.services@currys.co.uk] perhaps we should all just email Customer Services and all copy in combinations such as jan.kowal@currys.co.uk, j.kowal@currys.co.uk, ceo@currys.co.uk etc?
OP
Where do you live?

Says someone who has never tried to contact Currys! They are impossible to get hold of. ****in useless, don't use em.
Just order a different fridge (one that fits in the house!)from AO or somewhere. You'll have it by the weekend.
Sitting here in tears, stupid I know.
Not at all. I was really struggling with this recently due to some stressful situations i could not control.
My wife is an SEN/behavioural issues specialist teacher, and the way she explained it to me is that everybody has a capacity for how much stress they can deal with. You're dealing with so much shite right now that your 'tank' is almost full all the time, therefore even a small problem added to it can make it overflow and cause what might seem to outsiders like a disproportionate reaction. But really it's the combination of everything going on that's causing it, not just this particular incident.
Hope that doesn't sound condescending/patronising, it absolutely wasn't intended to be, but the explanation helped me to visualise/understand what was going on. I was so wrapped up in my situation I couldn't really articulate it at the time.
OP
Where do you live?
Carmarthen? Is that right? Eek, too far.
Anyone driving from manc to South Wales?
/Long shot...
In a van?
I ordered the wrong ink from Currys PC World.
Returned it, eBay noticed Currys were slow to refund so refunded me. Currys then sent out the same ink again.
I emailed Currys, I was told to ring the helpline. When I rang them I was told the waiting time was in excess of 1hr. No chance was I waiting on hold due to their **** up.
Having just gone through a delivery/return process with Curry's for 3 different faulty tumbledriers I can sympathise with the OP...they're a bunch of clowns, never again.
As soon as I started reading I just knew it would be them...
This situation must be so upsetting, as you say on top of everything else you face. I can vouch for how poor Curry's customer service is, I had an issue with a new TV a few weeks ago, phoned customer service and spent an hour listening to how important my call was to them then was cut off without having spoken to a human. Did this twice, eventually sorted the issue without Curry's help. Find a local independent shop who may actually give you some service? Whatever you choose, best wishes Gnusmas, and don't stop venting on here. Wish I could help more
🙁
Avoid Currys if there is anything remotely non-standard about your situation, they are just box shifters. We very nearly had the same nightmare with our big fridge/freezer which only just fitted through our gate with doors off.
If you're stuck for cash and your current freezer is looking a bit mechanically sad but still keeps things frozen, just swap the genuinely failing fridge. If your other white goods are looking dodgy, is it worth prioritising getting the washer sorted next? I know we couldn't function without one given how quick the nippers make their clothes filthy!
Whatever way you go, hope you get it sorted fella.
And keep venting on here. Having folk to bounce stuff off will do nothing but help.
Nobody is dead or badly hurt. Who cares. Brush it off and move on. Annoying, but this year has made me realise that life can change in a moment and it's not worth getting wound up about white goods!

I assume you don't know much about Samsung's recent history then do you? He has every right to feel the way he does and doesn't really need ot be told that IMO.
White goods are pretty critical element of family life so it is fair to get wound up. Gnusmas has been hit by more than his fair share of shitty sticks recently, it is totally understandable that he feels this way.

This +1 and it's pretty evident from his first post that this is clearly part of a much longer chain of much more serious events in his life. I think it's fair to say what he's been through would have completely and utterly destroyed many people. I'm not sure I'd have coped as well as he has.
Gnusmas the only kind of Curry's you want delivering is the one that comes with rice or naan 😏 We have had great service from Sainsbury's online for appliances before as well as AO. Fingers crossed you find something quick (from somewhere else).
I assume you don’t know much about Samsung’s recent history then do you?
All that shit and he's had a name change, too!
Gnusmas, bloody hell that's shite. Keep ranting and be happy that Curry's have just lost a customer today as I was looking for a christmas present for my son and have it in a currys basket right now, I'm not completing the purchase and will find it elsewhere.
Escalate it and let them know they are already losing money!
These guys look local to you, could they help?

We're looking to replace our fridge and freezer in the not too distant future. The replacement won't be from Currys.

Yeah. Biggest bunch of dicks ever. Go pretty much anywhere else.
All that shit and he’s had a name change, too!

That sucks - seems bizarre as standard they would need to take back to the warehouse before they can remove the doors (I guess more as part of shafting you for another £45). Would have thought it's just a few bolts?
Honestly though I don't think it's worth wasting your time or energy complaining to Currys further now (assuming you aren't out of pocket). It's unlikely you'll get through to someone that both cares and has the power to do something about it.
Really felt like smashing my fist through the PC on Monday, trying to order a TV from them.
We've searched your local area, no self pick up stores available.
Widened search, still nothing.
Any questions, get in touch.
Chat bot useless, no contact number.
After going round in circles for an hour I just gave up.
Sod them.
Hardly in the same league as your bother!
I will avoid using them in future.
Stay strong Gnusmams!
Try AO.com
If that link works there is a choice of fridge freezers for less than £350 and credit terms are available.
5 deliveries over the last three years and zero hassle

If you feel like smashing your fist through your PC because [insert generic monolithic store here] is out of stock of TVs, perhaps you need to take a look at yourself.
Curry's, as above, are abysmal. We're TV-less currently, awaiting a bloody voucher to enable us to replace the one that broke two weeks ago. Such an inefficient and frustrating experience.
We have an old but functioning fridge freezer you could have as a stop-gap, but it's in Surrey.
@Flaperon it wasn't the fact it was out of stock, just I couldn't pick it up!
I was maybe over egging the custard a bit with the fist through the pc comment.
Another vote for ao.com, we've had a couple of things off them and no problems.
Another option would be to look at FB market place / eBay if you can sort out transport (I know that might not be easy). You can find bargains as people struggle to find transport.
Good luck G, you're doing a great job.
That just sounds crap, I'd be laying it on thick with them right now!!
For sourcing a replacement quickly try Euronics, they run through local independent shops and these can usually arrange delivery quickly. If you can't find anything locally and there's something available round the Cardiff area but you're struggling with getting it delivered I should be able to help out with getting it down in either my car or a rented van. Plenty of free time so can most likely work something out if required.
Ah didn't realise the year you'd had, my comment seems very gross. Sincere Apologies - not comparable but also lost much of my mobility and a close relative in 2020. Hope 2021 is your year!
A few years ago ARGOS delivered a settee to a neighbours of the householder i was working for, asked me to call her when i saw an argos lorry, as she had the key to neighbours house.
Argos shifters turned up, i shouted neighbour, she opened door for them and pointed out which room the settee was to go in, and then went into the garden to finish a phone call.
AS i watched they got settee half way into house, then it got stuck on front door handle, so they shoved a bit harder and ripped the back, i shouted neighbour that they had ripped back of settee, and the neighbour got told report it as damaged and youll get a new one delivered, but we cant take the damaged one back as its a pick up not a delivery and we only do deliveries, never did find out f she got a new settee or the old one collected.
Currys are abysmal. I received an £80 voucher for the oven debacle and have been unsuccessful in trying to spend it. I wanted two items, one was home delivery only and the other local pick up only. The local pick up item wasn't available "locally" but was available at a store I pass often. By picking that store, the delivery only item wasn't available...
Thanks for all the support and messages, really appreciated.
First, I understand some people might be new and don't know what's been happening with me so no problem there. I'm constantly surprised that so many of you do actually remember it all. Either you've all been touched by everything or I post about it way too often. But everyone has their own struggles too which can be massive to them regardless of how big or small they are to everyone else. I hope everyone is doing OK, especially after the crap year we've all had.
The white goods I have at the moment came from AO about 5 years ago, Lyanda chose them all and they all match in make and a nice graphite colour. Remember a conversation about it at the time where she said it was a woman thing. My intention was to start sorting stuff out next year and replace or repair in priority order over the year. I only went for this particular one as it was a really good price and solved 2 of the 4 problems in one hit. Everything is just about functioning, regardless of leaks, creaks, noises, rumbles and smells. I might as well persevere with what I have til next year and stick to the original plan. I think this is probably the best way to go about it, now that I've had some time to think about it. But I will definitely be avoiding curry's.
I'm more annoyed at the way everything has happened than the actual fridge freezer itself, even though that is part of it. I have enough to do trying to sort Liberty's birthday on Xmas day and Xmas itself without adding any extra worry or hassle to it.
I've also got a friend and his 2 children coming round for Xmas, he lost his partner earlier this year but not due to covid. I remember how crap the first Xmas was not knowing what to expect. Not that it's got any better, but I know more what to expect now. Just thought it would help them out on their first Xmas and to also be around someone who understands might be beneficial.
Thanks again for all your input. And gnusmas, Samsung or any other spelling of it is fine by me. It's quite entertaining to see the different ways it gets spelt.
Only just spotted this. I'm glad you've recovered a bit, but quite understand how you felt. It's probably not the fault of the lads who brought it to you, sounds like crap systems at Currys (and management to go with it). If anyone here has a working fridge to find a home for there might be ways! Best wishes to you and your kids for Christmas.
Probably not a lot of help my friend but- I have just a single bottle of cider left from the crop you and the kids helped to juice. It's yours- once I've sprayed it white.
Gnusmas,
Are you in Carmarthen? I live in Neath area and am looking right now at an unused Candy fridge freezer in my kitchen. Its grubby, got kiddy stickers on it but it 100% works, or at least it did when I unplugged it a few months ago. Yours for the asking mate.
If you know a mate with a van you can come fetch it whenever.
Nice one johnnymarone. Currys are awful - last week I ordered mesh wi-fi from them. Same price as Amazon but decided to do click and collect and support a bricks and mortar store. Placed order at 8am, website states it is in stock at local store so I expected a call to say it was ready for collection within a couple of hours. 4pm nothing so tried to call them - went down an endless rabbit hole of a phone system which always ended in them texting me a link on how to obtain a refund and hanging up. Tried 3 times, gave up and next thing I know I receive an email saying the order has been cancelled. Went and ordered it from Amazon (this is Thursday evening) and scheduled arrival was Saturday. Friday lunch I get an email saying it is out for delivery and a link to track it. Click on the link and I get a map showing the delivery van's location and how many stops before it gets to me (5 as it happens). Watched the van moving around the local streets and it turns up at ours about 10 minutes later.
Moan all you like about Amazon but this is what I call decent customer service. Hard to see Currys surviving and apart from the impact on their staff I wouldn't be sorry to see them go.
I will never use Currys ever again. Total shower. Ordered a laptop in April, they sent a fit bit. Spent hours on the phone trying to get it sorted, they were useless. Took months to get a refund, had to chargeback through credit card. Avoid them like the plague.
Can also confirm Curry's are crap. Bought a cooker at the start of the year. The grill stopped working in March. Trying to report it via their abysmal phone system had me absolutely losing the rag. It then took until September to get the thing properly repaired. Multiple failed attempts to repair it. Multiple cancelled repair visits. It took several absolutely losing the rag phonecalls to get the thing finally repaired.
Absolutely abysmal customer service and I'll never buy from them again.
LOL at the only currys you want delivering come with rice and a naan.
I always use AO, who are great once you get past the slightly hard sell follow up phone call offering replacement cover. (Depending what it is BTW, you can always buy it after, usually cheaper in the paperwork from the manufacturer)
As for Ambrose
It’s yours- once I’ve sprayed it white.
I hope that's not a euphemism. I mean I like cider too but.......
