That has the same shudder factor as any wild animal preying on humans - snakes that swallow people, white sharks, grizzly bears.... there's a deep-rooted fear of this in us all, made the more poignant when it involves a child.

That's astonishing.

As an aside, youtube only shows 311 views for the linked clip- anyone know why?

youtube only shows 311

Something to do with checking it's not spam, it will update later and show the real figure.

It's a frightening video, are we sure it's real??

The only reason I'm glad it didn't take the child as no doubt there would've been a cull of such dangerous birds called for ๐Ÿ™„

Convenient how he filmed it on the approach. Just saying.

Scary and yet impressive at the same time - little dude would have been a gonna if it hadn't been a chubba Just shows how easy it would be for them to grab a lamb.

They kill fairly large animals in the wild. Much bigger than a baby, and this is entirely plausible, it just seems odd that the chap was filming it and then by pure coincidence it attacks the child right in front of him.

Hmmmm, I cry fake. When it turns to make it's 'final approach' it just looks wrong.

Pretty impressive bit of fakery if it is.

If I saw a golden eagle circling above my park, I'd probably film it.

EDIT: I take it back, there's some suspicious 'hang time' for the nipper just after the eagle lets go of him.

Looks real enough to me. This is real and the kid's a lot smaller than the prey here

I occasionally stop the car or my bike to take photos or video of animals so it's not that unlikely he'd film it.

I believe that (historically) eagles were used by man to hunt wolf cubs in parts of Russia and Scandinavia.

Looks real enough to me, especially because you cannot really see the detail until it's shown in slo-mo and if fake it's clever how the filmer stops following the action on camera whilst running to help/see if OK.

If I saw a golden eagle flying around I'd stop and film it if I had a camera. Looks pretty real to me but then maybe I'm just a sucker!

Its ok, there were some men in a hide surrounded by pigeon decoys with their guns trained on the Eagle, should it have been sucessful.

My kids think it's real so I can use it to scare them when we're out in walking in the woods.

I thought Golden Eagles stayed well clear of human habitation. Seems odd to have one living in one of Canada's major cities?
