But ahhhhhhhhhhhh...

They were obeying orders, but the man who gave the order (secretly) was killed while they were off doing the job.

My anorak, if you please.

Lord F is right. The full story, according to wiki, is this:
"During the Vietnam War, the A-Team's commanding officer, Colonel Morrison, gave them orders to rob the Bank of Hanoi to help bring the war to an end. They succeeded in their mission, but on returning to their base four days after the end of the war, they found their C.O. murdered by the Viet Cong and his headquarters burned to the ground. Therefore no proof existed that the A-Team were acting under orders, and they were sent to prison by a military court. They were sent to Fort Bragg, from which they escaped before they could actually stand trial"

Is there some sort of dusty shelf in Hollywood where they keep scripts for "ah shit we've run out of plots, quick get me a 70's action series that we can [s]bolloxs up completely [/s] re-imagine?

It look a bit more gritty and well-made than the TV series, was a bit dubious when I heard they were making an A Team film, but after seeing the trailer it look really good.

A film has to be really bad before the trailer looks rubbish, loved the TV series when I were a lad but won't be holding my breath.

Firing a heavy machine gun from a parachuting tank.

This is what would have happened in the original series, budget permitting....

meh, I wasn't that impressed with the trailer. An A-Team trailer must have 2 things:
1) the theme tune, unsullied by any re-imagining or anysuch
2) I ain't getting in no plane, fool!

Fail on both counts. In fact, the Snickers ads ("quit your jibber jabber" etc) are a better A-Team trailer than the A-Team trailer. FACT.

Fantastic quote from Robert Vaughn in Saturday's Guardian Guide:

"The strangest thing about The A-Team was Mr T. He was, as far as I'm concerned, a bona fide, credentialled psychotic. He had no benevolence. He drove a fire engine-red Rolls-Royce Corniche convertible. He'd start talking when he got into makeup at 7 o'clock in the morning and he'd still be talking at 7 o'clock at night when he got back into his Corniche. And nobody paid any attention to him at all. He was a very, very strange man."
