[Closed] Ideas for my 30th birthday present

Got my 30th birthday in a few months and the other half has been asking what I would like as gift. I suggested a Garmin Edge 810 but she mentioned quite rightly it's not something I will use for a very long time as something new will come out and replace it soon and I'll want that one instead.

Any other suggestions? Got a nice watch and more bikes is not an option at the moment.

Define long time? I've got my 800 when it first came out and have no plans to replace. Reckon it'll be 5 years before I want to replace. Great bit of kit. Watches and cufflinks are nice long term gifts

My 30th was 6 months ago and I can't remember what I got for it. I think my wife took me out for lunch. Just as well I'm not fussed about birthdays!

Why would you want the new one?

Got my 810 for my birthday (and christmas) from the missus this year, I use it every ride, it was part of a plan to allow us to explore a bit more round where we live and as the maps are crap here and to do a decent ride takes 2/3 of them the 810 is perfect.

I know new things come along but the Garmin looks like a stayer for me for quite some time. It's a bit of a bad marketing plan from Garmin but I can't see many reasons to upgrade

Posh shoes or a watch would get my vote.

My little boy was discharged from hospital on my 30'th birthday (after being born prem 6 1/2 weeks earlier). Although I think he'll last a little longer than a Garmin Edge 810 I think he may work out more expensive in the long run!!

My wife an I spent three weeks in Iceland, classic day hikes before horse ( pony 😉 ) riding north across the centre. Didn't really want stuff.

PS. I have the 800 and there is nothing in the 810 that would make me want to replace it. Would certainly be something you kept for many years IMO.

'Experiences' last longer than 'things'. I'm getting a skills day for 40th this year

I went to Prague and had a threesome for my 30th.
I was single though so you might find it difficult to get this past your other half.

....I thoroughly recommend it though.
