He is 7 and loves factual books like Ripleys and Guiness World Records
We are going to the National Railway Museum next week and have a long train journey to get their. A book with pictures, facts, activities and perhaps includes trains we can see at the museum would be right up his street.
Any ideas?

There are couple shots of HSTs (intercity 125s) that I drive now. I believe they have a cab of one at the NRM.
Peters Railway series of childrens books is pretty good with some history and facts thrown in. Might be a bit old fashioned for some but mine like them and they loved the railway museum as well.
