I am sure this will be of interest to approximately 0 people however I am buzzing a bit right now - I geek out easily though - so I don't care!
I joined something called the CWOPS Academy to learn morse code as I've been trying to get it nailed for 5 years or more. My first class was 21 May and just now I have had my first CW conversation on air.
Yes it was clunky but we at least exchanged details (I think)!!
Really very satisfying 🙂. My brain does still just about function it would seem.

Morse always looks incredibly difficult to me! Congratulations! Always a boost to realise you can still learn something new and actually be OK at it! 👍

My grandad was in the signals at the end of the war. In his latter years he would tap Morse on his chairs arm. No idea what he was tapping

a girl I used to know came from a long line of morse code operators, she insisted on learning it even though it's essentially an obsolete skill nowadays, but she did it 'cos her Dada did it.

Dad was a morse operator on a convoy escort/minesweeper in the war. He never lost the skill.
I tried to learn semaphore during lockdown. It was more tiring than it looked. I was flagging after the first few minutes.

It is not entirely obsolete. There are times in ham radio when only CW will get through so it has a use.
Admittedly it isn't something that is widely used anymore but plenty of operators use it pretty much exclusively and is just a hobby thing these days.
My dad did his national service in the signals, 1958-60 sat on the East German border. He can still remember morse code 62 years later having never used it since.

My grandpa was a signaller in his late teens somewhere in France during the first world war. With HQ behind the lines rather than in the front line.
I still have his morse key on my desk
