Some have had limited success with writing a new name on a bit of masking tape and then just sticking it on the screen.
I think even the most committed gave up after a day or two.
If someone called Holmes can't work it out, none of us have a chance.

You can change it, I used to be thegreatape, for example.
You need to get yourself a creepy stalker that sets up a username very, very similar to yours (say holmse81) and who posts on threads in such a way as to confuse folk as to who is posting. Then the mods might take pity on you.
This is, of course, all hypothetical.....
You would literally have to kill someone, assume their identity, wear their skin as hat, live on their house, sleep with their wife, eat their children and worst of all steal their email address. Literally.

Mine was changed for me. I asked nicely, explained why I wanted it changed, and it was done.
Hardest part was choosing a new name!
I've wanted to for years, did for a while back before the Big Hack™ © ®, but it kept causing login issues.
More than a little bored with this one, it wasn't that great an idea back in 2003, but I wasn't expecting to still be bloody using it thirteen years later!
The short answer is "no" as Drac said.
We can and do change names in exceptional circumstances (and by "we" I mean Tech, not the Moderators) but there has to be a valid reason.

Yep that's it. I re-registered in Jan 2009.
I originally registered around about 2004/5 as my user name was linked to my proximity to the then local country park. I had moved by 2009 so no way that's my original reg date.

Oh the japes that were had.
And then the wind changed and our forum names on the 'about me' tab of our profiles kept the last fake one we'd used and our original identities were reinstated elsewhere.
