How can I take still images off a DVD ?

I'm using home footage put on a dvd but I really need to grab 'stills'
off of it. Is there an easy way ? Didn't you used to just press PrtScrn ? A program that is FREE ? A program I've got ? Photoshop ? Please help....

You can take snapshots with VLC media player
