Looking to put our house on the market in the next month or so. Its a victorian cottage that has been renovated top to bottom.
When we originally painted the newly plastered walls we did them all in 'Dulux Timeless' - an off white/slight cream apart from the bathroom and kitchen that have coloured walls.
We are giving the house a spruce up and need to buy paint anyway - but should we add some colour to the main bedroom & living room so it looks good in the photo's/website or leave it plain as it is to appeal to buyers wanting to put their mark on it?
First house we've ever sold!
Plain and simple. De-clutter. Then de-clutter again. Empty storage cupborads and only fill it 1/3 full. Buyer then thinks there is lots of storage. Remove any furniture that makes it seem small, put it in to storage. Clean up the garage if you have one, make it look like you could put a car in there.
Show homes on new builds look the way they do because it sells houses. They give the buyer an image of their new life. It's a shame that the buyer then fills it with their horrible furniture or find their normal sized furniture doesn't fit.
Id go and leave it neutral as there is no accounting for peoples taste.
Though I never understand people who dismiss property due to the decor or furniture in it.
IMO leave it plain - your idea of what looks good may not be potential buyers' taste.
We've decluttered, boot sale and everything else stored in my workshop (not part of the house).
I'm doing the same ๐
I'd say keep the colours you've got, just add a fresh coat - and if you want to add more colour then do it with soft furnishings (and sparingly). Clean, uncluttered and neutral is the way to go!
bugger - that means my Mr's is right and I'm wrong (for wanting to add colour)!
Of course She's right.
