Have you wandered into an urban legend by mistake?

Is there anyone in the bath along with a load of ice?

When it happened to me, the police said (after taking a list of missing items from me) 'in your state of mind, you may have forgotten some things - just give us a call if you remember anything else' and went on to say 'don't forget that you are covered with your insurance and that you need to get something back to make up for the fact that you have gone through this'.

Of course the insurance did try to shaft me - started to make noises about the front door only having a 3 lever lock, not the 5 lever that was required as a term of my policy. This was despite the fact the burglar got in by prising open a back window...

Must have been after cash/valuables.

Left £600 in trailfinders vouchers, 1st gen iPod touch, brand new Garmin 800, exposure joystick, chequebooks, old Cannon SLR, old phones and errrr, everything (except the stuff I can't find when I need it in 3 months time I guess).

Punched the whole barrel through in one go?

At least there is an obvious entry point, ins co can't claim you left it unlocked and try and wriggle out of coughing up, especially with your Ming vase and fallen Madonna with the big boobies going walkies.

So easy to do,ensure your cylinder is an anti bump, anti snap cylinder, and its not sticking out to far from the handle, it should be flush on the outside.

Lots of info on youtube, but then burglars know that so nothing new.

Are the £40 Yale euro Cylinders (anti-snap / bump / pick) locks resistant to the £60 tools?

AIUI (from watcing You-tube vids) the tools are just a posh lever to make lock snapping a 2 second job, so an anti-snap cyliner should work against them. Mind you I'm paranoid, so also installed a steel roller shutter door behind the workshop patio doors.

Copper just been, very pleasant (apart from leaving muddy footprints on my carpet 🙄 )

Another job today just over a mile away, same characteristics reckons the PC.

Nicked items now at 1 - a Blackberry Playbook, good luck selling that! 🙂

Yup. Not sure if the door has been damaged or if it's just a matter of inserting a new barrel.

If there'd been any pants stolen by two burglars the police would be looking for a pair of nickers

Your real worry is that maybe it the guy played by Xavier Bardim in No Country for Old Men who blew lock cores out with the compressed air tool. 😯

Hive mind question: If items nicked are of such little value that an insurance claim is not worth it then should I notify the insurance company of the burglary or just not bother ?

If you call them and don't progress to a claim they will still mark it as a claim! Idiots. So eh no don't tell them.

ABS Avocet locks are meant to be the best (and you can get them all keyed alike) but not sure they will resist the brute force method of punching the whole thing through the door!

Yeah, done some research and those locks look like they're going to take some heavy effort to defeat. Amazine how crappy the bog standard Eurolocks are 😯

Small print will likely say that anything like that must be reported and failure to do so probably invalidates the insurance. So if there is a chance they could find out (e.g. if you've reported it to the cops) then I'd let them know.

Yeah, this. It's of material significance to the risk - i.e. they could consider you at greater risk of being broken into, with a track record of being broken into, so you should tell them, as they might otherwise be able to invalidate your cover if you get broken into next year and they find out about the previous break-in.

They are expensive but I'm happy with them, you can also order additional locks that match your keys later...garage door lock, shed padlock, Yale/nightlatch locks etc. You can even choose the colour of the keys 🙂

Yep, there was another burglary at the local police station as well, they took all of the toilets seats.

The Police have said they are investigating but, at the moment, they have nothing to go on.

Things must be bad then as all of the trampolines have also been stolen from the leisure centre. Police have sprung into action.

Next door neighbour has been a star and has secured the door. Turns out that the actual lock mechanism in the door is screwed also and so needs replacing.

Victim support just been on the blower also, offering cups of tea, friendly words and free UV pens + door alarms.

Not been this popular in ages 😉
