Rather than hijack the 2ndary DG thread ...
Our 1904 terrace house has a space/cavity under the living room (rear of the house is solid floor).
I'm assuming it might be a good idea to install some insulation between the floor joists?
Yes or No?
Is it easy to do? (there is an access panel to get under the floor)
What type of insulation is best/easiest to work with in a confined space, & how is it fixed in position?
Celotex is by far the best performing insulation. And if you cut it fractionally too big you'll be able to force it between the joists. It'll hold it's self if tight enough, maybe add a screw at each corner. (fix them half into the joist so the celotex sits on them rather than through it)
You could always try Insumate, its basically replaces nets to make installing insulation a bit simpler.
brands other than celotex are available. They are all foil backed polyurethane.
Check out Kingspan and Xtratherm for example.
It'll hold it's self if tight enough
Easily - I've just spent 20 hours fitting the stuff, cut a few mm wide, place a plank over the Celotex sheet and give it a good thump and it's not going anywhere......
Cheapest online supplier I found was: http://www.insulationexpress.co.uk/Insulation-Boards/Celotex-GA4000-Insulation-Board.htm
I then got someone else to match it and offer a bulk discount as I bought 68 sheets (and have just realised I need more as I underestimated a bit).
