We are replacing out crappy ceramic hob with and induction hob (gas not an option unfortunately). Getting one of the right external size is no problem but finding a model that requires the same width cut out is proving harder. The current hole is 780mm wide while the model we are looking at asks for a 750mm hole. I'm thinking that not providing the extra support would not be a great idea? Presumably we can just add 15mm of wood either side of the hole to reduce the size (the hob finished size is over 800mm so wood would not be visible.

Sound reasonable. If its all hidden once it is in then a couple of bits of wood glued and screwed in place will do the job.

/\ /\ Ditto /\ /\

Just make sure the extra bits of wood are secure, as the hob will be secured to them

Yeah, if it's covered by the glass and not seen, as long as they're secure then bodge away!

Cool, thanks all. Was going to cover the wood with silver heat tape as well and screw in well (worktop is corain with chipboard underside). Hob is gravity fit so not secured directly to the extra bits (or anything in fact).

I can't tell you if it's the right thing to do but it's what I'd do.

Edit never mind, reread dimensions and decided I was being melodramatic.

😆 wouldn't be my first choice but the only 780mm one I've found so far is a Miele one around £2k!

(gas not an option unfortunately).

Gas hobs are inferior in my experience.
