We have just had a new kitchen fitted. The layout is totally different to what we had previously. The kitchen unit to the left side of the hob is only 50mm away from the hob. The first time I used it I had to move the wok to another ring as the cupboard felt hot to the touch.

I have just checked and now know that there should be at least 150mm between the units and the hob. I am P****d off with the kitchen installers as they should have known this.

It is going to be a nightmare to move the hob and ideally we want to avoid this. Are there any other solutions I could look at? I will be speaking with the installers but was hoping for some advice beforehand.

Thanks

Heat shield or splash back? Stainless steel plate.

A quick Google suggests a minimum of 300mm either side of a hob. If it's gas one ask them politely to relocate it at their cost and if they don't then get on to Gas Safe.

Is that a hob specific in the manual for your hob because I've never had a hob that's 150mm from the units.

I assume there is a full unit to the side ? Seems too close TBH.

maybe there is a tall larder unit next to hob, if so it will be like a wooden wall covered in meltable plastic to ear a very hot heat source.

Defo too close imo. Who designed the kitchen layout?

Get an induction hob. You'll thank me in the long run and it doesn't kick out heat like the traditional ones do.

Thanks for the replies. The kitchen was fitted by a local company. They fitted our bathroom last month and did a great job which was the reason we asked them to do our kitchen. Plus there recommendations were good on Facebook.

The hob is electric.

We rarely use more than 2 rings at a time so my thoughts are to just have something as protection on these occasions. Fitter is coming next week to have a look.
