Went to do the Askham/Lakeshore/Bordale etc today.
Weather forcast went to plan and wind/rain arrived at 12ish so took the road back.

It's not often that the road section of a ride proves harder than the off-road.

Even came across a landslide

it's also not often that you can ride aling that roa and not fear for your life from crazy motorbikers and drivers.

i take it waterproof socks didn't really help ๐Ÿ™‚ ?

Amazing pics ,

however IMO it's extremely irresponsible to ride this area of the country at the moment. How would you have felt if you'd got into difficulties and put the lives of rescue workers at risk?

Well done you( and I mean this sincerely) , all the footage we've seen looks so f***in scary.

One of my wife's directors was at Whitehaven on Thursday afternoon and coming home got pushed back and forth along the A66 as roadblocks went up , he finally managed to get down the A595 coast road but said the water was washing over the top of his bonnet at times.

isn't this a recipe for never doing anything in the least bit dangerous ?

No not really there's been plenty of tv/radio coverage stating that the area should be avoided if possible.

but anytime you go somewhere dangerous anyone attempting to rescue you is exposed to the same danger. My preference is to take my own responsibility and be allowed to rot in the wilds if necessary.

Yep nice work Andy, Michael Bonny(Orange Mountainbikes) lives in that area and has just suffered the devestation a flood like this causes,A big pat on the back is well deserved after working in currents and conditions like that. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I dont think yer bottom brackets gonna last riding in that depth of water though! ๐Ÿ™„

Gav, i saw Michael and Lester. The photos are from their village across the road from my dad (2nd time flooded in 4 years)

Made me laugh actually and i should have taken a photo!!!
Michael and Lester were both outside the house, looking very warm in dry suits. The only possession recovered from the house was sat high and dry on the wall.

An orange Orange.

Priorities.

No one is obliged to join the rescue services, and presumably they should be well enough trained to decide which situations are too risky for them, so adventurers need not concern themselves with the risk to potential rescuers. I suspect, from the people I've met who've joined up, that they'd be the last to try to curtail risk taking.
