Basically for a day hike for Cubs
Any recommendations
to fit in or carry?

Looks decent to me but not sure on size without trying in store.
No point spending a fortune in case he doesn't enjoy it...

No suggestions here but are you sure an 8 year old wants/needs a 22 or 30 litre rucksack?
I use a 20L as daypack and this is more than big enough for me. I'd expect that someone half my size should carry somehthing smaller and lighter.
Carrying a fully laiden bag around for a whole day can cause the shoulder to ache, better to limit the size in my opinion.
Ours have had 10, 12 and 18 litre day sacks from Decathlon. Needs to take lunch, waterproof coat if they take it off, and that's it.
A day hike for Cubs isn't going to be munching the miles in inhospitable terrain, unless they are very lucky with their leader!
Not the cheapest around but would recommend the Deuter Junior. Our daughter was bought one as a present at about the same age. It's a well made properly sized kids rucksac. She's carried it up Snowdon twice without complaint, well not about the rucksac.
Surely an 8 year old shouldn't be carrying any significant weight on their back?
As above, a packed lunch and somewhere to put their coat?
Yip packed lunch small bottle wAter and a raincoat so 10-15 litre
Was thinking decathlon or go outdoors just wondering if anyone had other recommendations
We have a decathlon, a karrimor, a salomon and a vaude. They all argued over the salomon (comfy, now has been signed by DannyMac)
As above, lunch and water, waterproof top and trousers, hat and gloves maximum. I carry spare layers, food, water and group kit if needed on big mountain days
