I don't rate ken Block much (at all), but the people that put all the obstacles in the way between his tyre marks after he's done 100 runs to get his lines right are pretty damn good.

He's created a fun niche hasn't he though?

I'm a bit unsure about him myself. He's one of those chaps who has to think quite a lot before he talks but sadly doesn't seem to excel at either activity. All his talent appears to be in his driving feet.

I think 'driving' must have different meanings for different people.

I'm from the Ari/Stig/Hannu School of Motoring, so here's what I call Driving (with a capital D);

That is very impressive and is certainly more about real driving but I'm sorry, that video has been sped up in places.

I've been working in film & video editing since 1988 (last employer Technicolor), and watching motorsports since the mid 70s, it doesn't look speeded up to me. Look up who the video company are and who the driver is.

Block's created a niche for himself, but I'd guess any of the top class WRC drivers and quite a few autotesters could replicate his stunts without any great effort. Slickly edited and produced films made up of many runs are one thing, doing it for real in a one off competitive environment is something else, and doing it blind (as in the Group B days) was just plain ridiculous.

I'll take your expertise for it then Tucker but for me the first one starts at 37 seconds. The car accelerates unfeasibly quickly and you can see the trees and plants moving around in the wind far too quickly. There's a couple more places like that where if they continued to replay at normal speed the car would be in shot too long.

As demonstrated when he went to WRC for a bit, got schooled, and then took his ball home.

Loving the crazy cart vid, can't be arsed with the Ken block one - yes great but practised to hell and back... the rally ones better/more skilled.

That box cart is ace - my amusement increased by the driver's resemblance to Roy from the IT Crowd.

No idea, but I'd guess so. No co-driver because it's hillclimbing or sprinting, not rally. There's another vid of the driver Simon McKinley in same car competing with two single seaters...he comes second I think! The engine alone costs about £40,000 odd I think!

Hang on, I'll find it...

Deffo Ireland here, I recognise the town stage from rallying.

For Drac and Samurai, there are plenty of vids of Simon and his Escort out there. Heck, you can even buy DVDs. Not a single one of them speeded up (to my knowledge).

That Danny MackAskill as well, he's another waist of space, takes loads of attempts to get his videos made, no natural talent, hasn't even finished the TdF never mind won it.

Take it up with Vantage Point Video, misrepresentation/false advertising isn't it. Do let us know how you get on.

I expect that Block has more fun as he makes more money than most on here, so he is obviously an utter failure in life.

Um, there is some (pretty fricking large) middle ground between being really very talented, and being 'an utter failure in life'.

Just saying.

I expect that Block has more fun as he makes more money than most on here

Wow. Odd view on life. Guess my local drug dealer must be having way way more fun than me then. Why do wealthy people commit suicide then?

Those Swiss (think it's Swiss) hillclimbs sure make ours look a little lame!
