Dear Oracle.

Any deas on what to get little MissG for her 4th birthday? Rather than post this on m*msnet, and get some mediocre dolly-based ideas, MrsG and I thought we'd have a better quality of suggestion from STW.

We're both stumped. She has a bike/scooter/trike/doll/many pink things/swing/slide/princess-dress-up-outfit and more; we're at a loss as to what to get her as a main present - and our finances won't really allow us to splurge for the sake of it. Any suggsstion are welcome.

Ta.

Kids don't remember much before they are 5. Don't buy her anything and she won't remember anyway

Just buy her some small toys / games / clothes / drawing things, as long as they're wrapped up and I expect she'll be really happy! she's too young to really want anything, and won't remember last year so nothing to compare it to!

Get her a bike - just make sure it is in your size. Imagine her joy as she sees how happy you are out riding each day

I just mentioned the drum kit to MrsG.... by the look on her face, we won't be getting her one of those.

WCA, I like the cut of your gib.

Becky, you're probably right and I guess, that'll probably be the right thing to do. It's just that, well, she's my little girl...

Peppa pig is a good shout too.

Take her to see something amazing. No child will remember a plastic piece of tat in 10 years, but a trip to a special place can provide memories that last a lifetime.

Don't waste your money on it then. She's 4, doesn't really need presents. A great day out with mum and dad is much more valuable.

with two rug rats just started primary school thier grateful for anything.. they dont have peer pressure ect and as has been mentioned they wont remember in a week never mind for the rest of thier lives so day at the zoo, farm, woods etc all good for the family as you will remember them.. splash a tenner at matalan and wrap some plastic stuff/ peppa pig ( mine like the little figures so they can play out stories) and wrap them up for the morning.. at 4 yrs old presents is about quantity not quality in the playground.. as parents quality time is everything..

I'd say blow up a bunch of balloons for her room in the morning, get some fun outdoorsy play things like chalk, kite and bubbles...then go out and make the whole day a 'special' day of fun...ask her what she'd like to do (give her 2 or 3 choices zoo, beach, museum) and let her pick the whole day. I bet she'll think it's great.

Don't have to buy her lots of expensive presents, take her out - go to a farm and show her the lambs and calfs and stuff (pick a good farm and might even get to help feed lambs!), then could have a picnic and help her fly a kite etc.

Hope you all have a good day!

My daughter turned 4 just a couple of weeks ago. I bought her Lego (not Duplo, the real thing), a new bike helmet and took her out to a pizza parlour. She loved it, will be buying more Lego.
