I've found an old forgotten about pair of speakers from a Pure Legato system, like these;

and I rather fancy being able to have them up and running in the kitchen, so that I can then use a phone/tablet to drive them for those times when digital radio fails me.
So, simple questions from a simple person;
1 - Will my phone actually be able to make them play some phatt beats and dope choonz or would I need some sort of amp?
2 - How do I go about connecting it up? Phone output would be a 3.5mm headphone jack as normal, and the input at the back of the speakers is a straight cable clamping doodah (The same as in this pic of the back of the old unit)

Is there a simple way of connecting them up, sans plaited unicorn pubes, of course! Am looking for more Heath Robinson than High Fidelity!

Yep, old unit is totally borked. Kept the speakers, thinking that I might find a use for them.

Something like that would do the job nicely. Surprising good sound quality for the money. Nice and compact as well.
Little blue tooth reciever/tripath amp/speakers is how i'd do it then the amp and bluetooth can be stashed away .

What you need is some Nordost Valhalla cables with suitable plugs on...
