The people dieing due to coronavirus are as well as not instead of.

pretty sure I heard a doctor state that something like a third of CV deaths would have died from their underlying health conditions anyway.

"Fella I know has just messaged me today to see if I’ll go out riding with him tomorrow,

IIRC he rules relate to ‘gatherings of more than two’ people not from the same household. Do you and your mate add up to more than two?

(although it’s hard to keep track of what’s a ‘rule’ and what Is ‘advice’)"

Shurely the pertinent part is "same household" but as said before it's all in the interpretation.

For the crime of using their garden.

For the crime of spreading a disease which has already killed nearly 10,000 people in the UK alone and which is easily spread through social contact. I see no issue reporting people like this to the police and don't understand the social stigma in doing so.

Where do you draw the line? Would, you for example, still consider it "grassing someone up" if you saw domestic violence? Animal abuse? Arguably you could say that directly contributing to the spread of a fatal disease has, overall, worse consequences.

Find this thread profoundly depressing.
It’s like some horror film.

The glee and joy with which people are informing on neighbours to the police.
For the crime of using their garden.

It has very little to do with preventing the spread of a virus.
It’s a celebration, an outpouring, of a particular brand of British toxicity.

It’s an irate hatred of everything that isn’t you or your family.
It’s the product of an atomised society that’s dominated by a right-wing media.

It's not as if the 'great' british public have a brilliant track record when it comes to being conned/manipulated into voting against their own interests....

You know, having their own prejudices played back to them as 'fact' via social media and the construction of a totally illusory bogeyman like 'Europe'.

This is precisely the reason that I would never agree to any tracking software and I would simply leave my phone at home if it was installed without consent. There are too many vested interests using the tories (openly and covertly) as a trojan horse for them to be trusted.

Allowing for that statistic, that is still over 600 extra deaths a week

It's a bit of a stretch to compare a situation in a house where a person or animal is directly having their natural rights violated without their consent, to an unauthorised gathering. The harm, if any, is very indirect and the models account for a degree of noncompliance. Most of us will get this at some point, all the matters is when.

If you are down the pub & someone has just necked 6 pints of Stella and is about to pick up his car keys, do you feel reluctant to 'dob' them to the police.
The people flouting the rules are the ones being massively anti-social at the very least. I don't see why social nicety should protect them.

I've been invited by a couple of facebook "friends" to join a "toast your neighbours" Facebook group. The absolute brass neck of it. These are largely the same curtain twitching busybodies who fill their feeds up with tales of what their neighbours are up to, what scum they are and and how they are killing nurses and old people with their barbecues etc.

Steady on comrade, why don’t you re-read the thread and you might notice that most people aren’tcalling the po-po?

We must have read different threads. Most have either said they have, are thinking of or would like to. The minority have said whilst disapproving would never dob people in.

Go and count up how many confirmed calls to the police we have in this thread.

Up to March 27th overall UK death rates were in normal range. I suspect the number of extra deaths will be small. Many will be deaths brought forward by a month or two. The Covid deaths don't distinguish between deaths from Covid and deaths with Covid. If someone got knocked down by a bus and died of trauma but was Covid positive then that death is in the daily stat. Likewise cancer, heart disease etc.

Yep,name calling from ignorant fools with nothing to offer but emotional bullshit. At most the death rate this year will increase by 0.2%.If you want to concentrate on something real, examine why you voted for tory austerity resulting in the needless deaths of some medical staff. This place is no better than mumsnet.Only more bitchy.

Useful research from the other thread:

https://www.icnarc.org/DataServices/Attachments/Download/c31dd38d-d77b-ea11-9124-00505601089b

In short:

* profile of admissions with Covid19 is significantly different to ‘normal’ influenza including lower rate of comorbidities, different demographics and disproportionately male.

* the whole ‘would have died anyway’ meme seems a bit oversimplified given the high rates of people ‘living life without daily assistance’ both admitted and requiring respiratory support.

Neighbour has gone out again in two cars with the heard. No need, we have a big field literally next to the houses. The kids have been in the garden all morning, it's now very quiet.

Well, let's see what happens to the figures for 2 weeks after March 27th. I suspect they won't be average.

Was rudely awoken this morning by loud and excited children's voices speaking what sounded like German two gardens over. England seemed like a long way to come for your hour's exercise!

Mrs T explained later they were doing an Easter Egg hunt and have lived there for about 6 months.

The idea that everything is normal and covid isn’t killing anyone that wouldn’t have died anyway is pretty ill informed. However the actual figures are difficult to interpret - for example an eighteen year old was a publicised covid death some days ago. 24 hours later the hospital confirmed that he did test positive 24 hours before he died of complications from other illnesses.
This bbc article is an interesting look at it.

So those of us who reported gatherings.... are we all nazis and grasses now?

I'll remember to keep that in mind when I'm wearing my inadequate ppe on my next shift in. If I get covid and end up vented becuase of viral load I'll just remember that I was gonna get it anyway....

It's not only the deaths that should be focussed upon but also the thousands of people who have become critically ill, including our esteemed PM, and are saturating the NHS's capacity to cope. Many of these people may end up with scarring on the lungs which could make them more susceptible to future infections. Would I dob people in - possibly depending on the nature and scale of their transgressions of the lockdown 'rules', but everyone round here seems to be conforming.

Surely you mean infectious dose not viral load if you are talking about the dangers of inadequate ppe?

I'm having a similar debate about our next door neighbours.

They've pretty much observed the social distancing/isolation rules up to now but this weekend they've clearly though "**** it" and had the full extended brood of chavvy offspring plus grandchildren round...

Part of me wonders if I'd object quite so much if they were a bit more middle-class and quieter. Hence the fact I haven't grassed just yet.

Assistant Chief Constable Alan Todd said they had launched the website to free up the emergency phone line, which has been jammed with complaints from people attempting to inform on their fellow citizens.

People in Sweden are still practicing social distancing but aren't pig headed enough to need everything spelled out to them, we on the other hand were still mobbing the beaches 3 weeks ago. South Korea only got to where it has by effectively lowjacking the entire nations mobile phones to plot transmission routes and being fortunate enough to have enough testing facilities.

As for a glorified flu, hardly.

@edward2000
Nowhere so exotic. This was the Grand Union in Milton Keynes.

@CountZero

No, it really isn’t ’fair enough’! The towpath is a public r.o.w

I checked, and apparently it isn't - that's why they could close canal paths during the F+M thing a few years ago.
The signs they put up are advice from the Canals and River Trust saying that people should minimise their use of canal paths. I checked the rest of the advice and it's still ok for people to use, but they should take care, etc. The bit that was interesting to me is that it is definitely not ok for anyone to block the path.

I passed them again on the way home from work - I was still using the other side - and they were having a little barbecue. I might start taking pics just in case I get into a dispute with them.

Extreme opinions tend to create opposite extreme reactions.

I seem to remember there being a number of people earlier in this thread saying they had or were going to call the police. Which is typical STW/internet virtue signalling really, spot a band wagon and hop on so they can ‘belong’.

Interesting to note as more opinions of the opposite view started to emerge by those who know they don’t need to find a gang, the number of new admissions for calling the police kinda fell a bit down...

Maybe that gang isn’t quite so cool anymore?

As for @monkeycmonkeydo’s comments, reactionary to the general virtue signalling I’d wager. He does make some valid points though, so before you all gang up and bully his lone voice into submission, or a ban.

The average death rate in the UK is a little over 1,300 per day. Unfortunately, the headline stats are not really differentiating between those who would have died anyway, and those who were seemingly perfectly healthy before catching the virus. So it’s fairly pointless to argue that one.

Also, shock horror, we will all die one day. When is that day? Tomorrow? Next week? Month? 5 years? We just don’t know.

Two of the most important things to achieve in life as a human being:
Loss. There is always loss, life is how we deal with loss, or rather, for those of you starting to boil your wee at such a truth, it’s what we gain from loss, rather than what, or who we lose.
Secondly. You will die, prepare yourself for that inevitability in whatever way you find easiest and one you can live with.

Apart from that, as you were.

Ive always thought i would die in a collision between me and another vehicle, and with all the reduction in traffic, there should be less chance, but the proportion of idiots driving, stinking of cannabis, drunk, speeding, not insured etc etc, had a few near misses the last few weeks, all means laws not rules dont apply to idiots, theyll take their chances of not killing or seriously injuring someone.

So feel free to report your neighbours for social gatherings,if that makes you happy, but also report all the above to make things equal, because we all use the roads, footways and public transport

Yes if my neighbours were having a big gathering (they’re not) I would also report them.

It’s just wrong and they’re gambling with their damn life’s, it boils my blood that some people just aren’t serious about it....

We bought another house and we were spending every weekend there doing DIY.... since the lockdown because it’s not essential we are not going back, the place is locked fully so we have to wait for this to pass!!

Anyone going out more than once a day are playing with OTHER people’s lives!
