[#3183387]

Can anyone recommend me a decent hardwood floor fitter near Tunbridge Wells?
I'm looking for fitting only if possible. If not, a decent supply and fit company will have to do.

Many thanks

I've heard good things aboutNaos Floors in Tonbrodge although not used 'em myself, yet. Met a guy from them called Dave Ryan who seemed to know his stuff.

Thanks for that Nobby.

But they seem to be a bit out of my price range. They seem to start at about £60 sq metre supplied and fitted.

I'm looking for about £40 - £50 per sq metre.

Well la de ****ing la 🙂

If you'd asked three months ago, I'd have been biting your hand off. Sorry, bit busy right now...boss. But, £40-50 per sqm supplied and fitted? I'd struggle even at mate's rates. Hope you find someone - if you have any questions in the meantime, fire away.

Darcy,

What is the going rate for fitting per sq metre? I was thinking along the lines of about £18? Is that a bit optimistic?

When I said hardwood, I should of been clearer, I would be happy with engineered. Not wanting laminate though. That leaves about £30 per sq metre for the flooring.

I am close or do I need to up the budget?

Thanks for the help.

I suppose when you put it like that, £50 doesn't seem too bad. If it's pre-finished, then £20/sqm-ish is about right for fitting. A lot of my work involves finishing also, so more ££. £30/sqm for timber will get you something decent off the Internet. Will it be glued (concrete) or nailed? Doors? Thresholds? Fireplace to frame? Etc etc.

Thanks again Darcy.

Is it worth paying for the branded stuff - Kahrs, Junckers? Or the cheaper unbranded stuff? Can you recommend any websites?

The fitting should be pretty simple, but it will part of a much larger renovation, central heating, plastering etc. I'm still scoping out my options.

No worries...

I don't think there's any need to go for the Kahrs or Junckers...unless you have to money. Most of theirs is click together anyway...and I think floating is a No-no if you want a proper job. As far as websites are concerned, I don't use any as I have all my suppliers down here in Brizzle/Baaath area.

Just hunt around - you should probably be looking for something along the lines of:

Structural thickness (18mm or more)
Wear layer of greater than 3mm (6mm typical)
If pre-finished, go for oiled - much easier to maintain yourself in the long run. Factory finished lacquers are cheap and easily marked.
Go for a fixing method that fixes the floor to the sub-floor i.e. by gluing or nailing if a timber subfloor (this might leave you paying a little more than £18/sqm for fitting, but you never know).
Get 2 or 3 quotes and use the guy who sounds like he knows what he's talking about - having said that, I get work so not everybody does that obviously 🙂
