Anyone submitted video evidence of close passes etc.. and heard back from Hampshire police giving an update of the out come?

Had another close pass today so have filled out the online form and uploaded the footage and then i realised this is the 5th incident this year that ive reported and ive never heard back about the out come on any of them

I reported an incident last year just over the border in West Sussex to the West Sussex Police snap initiative and a month later i got a letter telling me the driver had been issued a choice of points or a driver awareness course and they had chosen the awareness course (horse truck close pasing me over a blind hill with oncoming traffic having to avoid them, to only turn left a 100 yards up the road!)

I humbly suggest this is because there was an outcome to report; no outcome, no letter and vice versa I would think and therfore I'd suggest your lack of response from hants is down to no action taken.

Also

horse truck close pasing me over a blind hill with oncoming traffic having to avoid them, to only turn left a 100 yards up the road!

I strongly suspect the reason anything happened is the bit in bold. I'd love to believe it was the close pass and left hook, but I'd like to belive in dragons attacking Westminster Palace mid PMQs too.

I know that whenever I submit anything to GMP they say specifically that they will not tell me of any outcome.

I also appreciate that this answer doesn't help you much 😁

I think you're probably misreading that, "we won't tell you of any outcome" =/= "we won't tell you about one when there is"

Eg I won't tell you of seeing any unicorns.

Thank you for your recent submission to the DASH CAM reporting process.

The matter will be reviewed by a Roads Policing Officer who will determine the appropriate action:

* Summons to court (usually for the more serious offences)
* A conditional offer (usually points and a fine)
* A Driver Educational Course (which they have to pay for)
* A warning letter
* No further action for an offence, but footage to be used to update our intelligence on the vehicle. (Note, intelligence may also be passed on to 3rd parties with an interest in the vehicle, such as Insurance and Finance companies).
* No further action

Where we identify that action will be taken against the driver, we will contact the registered keeper.

As soon as we become aware the case will proceed to Court only then we will contact you and ensure that you are supported through the process otherwise you will not receive any further updates.

Your help in taking the time to make us aware of this matter is greatly appreciated and will improve the safety on the roads of Greater Manchester.

Although my most recent submission got this auto-reply:

What happens next?

We'll investigate your report based on the information you’ve provided and get back to you within 48 hours, either with a crime reference number or, if we can’t take action, an explanation as to why and further advice.

We won't call you unless we need more information, to clarify something in your report or if there might be an opportunity to collect forensic evidence.

And then nothing 🙄

Cheers for the replies

Would be nice to know if there is any action taken as when you hear nothing back it makes you think is it worth submitting the footage in the first place!

This last one was pretty bad, not as bad as the one last week when a car sped through a train crossing, didnt even attempt to slow for the junction just after the gates and would of taken me out if i hadnt kept an eye on the junction as i approched it, annoyingly my camera couldnt catch the number plate due to how dark it was, my flashing front lights and the reflectiveness of the cars rear number plate, he was easily doing 40+mph and wasnt about to lift off let alone brake!

I made a mistake on one once (mistook a 'D' for an '0' or something) and they contacted me to update my statement so at least I knew they'd looked at it.

That was the Met though...

the operation considerate bunch at GMP are pretty good at giving you updates.
you used to have to chase them but recently (well part way through last year) I noticed they'd email an update if there was any action. once actually got a call from the officer reviewing the footage to say (and I quote) "**** that was close" and they certainly will be taking action.

I've never had anything back from Hants plod, but last year Surrey sent a "we're going to take action and it will be one of the following" email in response to a submission and TVP have actually called to discuss whether I felt the offer of a driver improvement course was a satisfactory outcome or if I wanted to press for prosecution via the court.

Fwiw I had one in Hants (pre SNAP) where I heard nothing but on the submission I had noted that the vehicle also had a non compliant numberplate - saw it again a few months later with a shiny new (and legal) numberplate so I took that as a good sign.

First submission for some time recently, just got this response with results so they seem to have changed policy:

Thank you for your recent submission to the DASH CAM reporting process.

The matter has now been reviewed by a Roads Policing Officer who has determined the appropriate action.

This was forwarded to the Central Ticket Office for the driver to be dealt with for the relevant offence with a view to prosecution and or, the offer of an awareness course if applicable.

Your help in taking the time to make us aware of this matter is greatly appreciated and will improve the safety on the roads of Greater Manchester.

I don't have a camera so don't submit, but a colleague in Nottingham has had positive responses from the Police after sending them clips.

conversely I've heard nothing from them unless I chaaed the mup at which point they said "NFA", "not an issue" and 2 * "footage was not reviewed in time".

Derbyshire got back to me on the one thing I submitted to them and kept me updated to letme know what was happening until wnt to the drive with a choice of court or a course.

reminds me must chase up the last couple of GMP submissions

There’s a complete lack of standardisation on this despite the efforts of DCS Andy Cox (who is active on Twitter).

Apparently GMP recently binned a whole load of submissions on the basis they didn’t have enough resource, which is slightly at odds with their new Chief Constable’s view on downgrading offences 🙄

I had an Audi on the way home today in the wet a few cm from my elbow. Think the cops will accept footage with my shouting "you stupid ****!" on it? As far as I know shouting swear words isn't against the highway code...

@desperatebicycle Can you edit the soundtrack off before submitting? 🤔

Anyone know if Police Scotland have something similar and if they would do anything if I was to send them clips of drivers playing with their telephones?
If so I'll treat myself to a camera just to get a few pillocks off my commute

@andrewh Funny you should ask - PS are lagging here, and have floated the idea of scrapping their portal as a cost saving measure. CyclingUK have an online campaign asking them to reconsider

Anyone ever had a response from West Mids or Warwickshire Police to a submission?

I submitted mine with ‘you absolute ****’ clearly audible to Suffolk Constabulary and it made no difference, they very nicely replied with this:

Thank you for your Dash Cam footage. The footage you have sent in has been reviewed and the decision has been made by an officer to deal with this by a Notification Of Intended Prosecution.
Please continue to send in any offences that you may witness and wish to bring to our attention.

Footage, including the audio, I believe should be unedited.

Just had a new reply from Surrey plod after submitting a close pass. The top excuse was highlighted, whatever that means but at least it shows that someone has reviewed the video.

The evidential quality in this case has been examined and we cannot proceed further for the reason highlighted below.

OTHER REASONS WHERE WE ARE UNABLE TO SATISFY THE LEGAL PROCESS
NO OFFENCES DETECTED
INSUFFICIENT EVIDENCE TO PROCEED
NO VIDEO FOOTAGE
NO INDEPENDENT EVIDENCE
NO REGISTRATION NUMBER GIVEN
VIDEO FOOTAGE NOT RECEIVED OR NOT RECEIVED WITHIN 14 DAYS OF ALLEGED OFFENCE
POOR VIDEO QUALITY
UNABLE TO READ THE INDEX PLATE OR NOT GIVEN INSUFFICENT EVIDENCE TO PROVE THE OFFENCE.

Of no help to you, but...I live in Shropshire and my first video submission got this response...

Thank you for your recent footage to OpSnap.

After reviewing your footage a decision has been made to take action against the offending vehicle. Depending on the severity of the offence and the evidence submitted the likely outcomes will be a court hearing, a notice of intended prosecution or a driver improvement course. We in the first instance prefer education over prosecution but this will NOT take place if we believe court is more appropriate.

Please retain original footage should the matter be required for a court hearing. If required this will likely be within a 6 month period and we will inform you that this is the case.
