I had a tooth removed on thursday morning as it was giving me no end of grief and needed root canal treatment!

all was going ok, didnt take long to remove and the blood was clotting ok, i had to see the dentist the following day for a filling and since then ive been in absolute tatters with pain from the hole!!

Ive been taking brufen,co codamol and diclofenic but it wasnt helping , so i contacted nhs direct and got an appointmnt for an out of hours surgery.

the doctor looked at the hole and said it looks like its getting infected, so she gave me some anti biotics and some tramadol to stop the pain.

how ever its still not helping, im off my face and feel spaced out as im popping so many painkillers !!, got an exam tomorrow afternoon and shitting myself as i havent been able to revise ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

im going to th dentist tomorrow to see whats up as i cant cope with this pain much longer!!

what a nice way to spend my weekend.............. not

Hey renton and project at least a dentist removed yours ๐Ÿ˜€ Before ๐Ÿ˜ฅ after.
Those old style leather hairnet helmets never really worked!

ah, project. now I see why the forum was stalling ๐Ÿ˜‰

careful with your painkillers, renton: try not to double up

tramadol is quite like codeine - which is in co-codamol (either of these - especially tramadol - is most likely to be why you're off your face. More likely still if you've been on both)

ibuprofen is quite like diclofenac & shouldn't take both

(assuming they're all yours & no reason for you not to take any of them)...try diclofenac plus plain paracetamol plus tramadol - and READ the labels/instructions about dosing & frequency. If you can get by without the tramadol you might feel more alert

I know it sounds dumb but it worked for me when I had monster abscess. On the same side that you have the pain in your jaw hold an ice cube between thumb and forefinger and rub it between them until it is entirely melted. It has the effect of fooling the brains pain receptors away from the pain in your face and registers the pain in your fingers caused by the cold.

if you still have the diclofenac, one of those (50mg?) is likely more effective than 400mg of brufen

if you can get your hands on plain paracetamol (garage, corner shop) then add that (1 gram four times daily) & consider swapping from brufen to diclofenac.

Try & split the doses so they're not all wearing off at once (& try to make sure they don't wear off during your exam)

what strength is the tramadol & how often are you taking?
I'd suggest not taking tramadol tomorrow before your exam unless you really need to - quite well recognised for *ahem* "neuropsychiatric" effects, which you seem to be experiencing (?)

In the end I suppose the antibiotic is the best thing for this so don't stop that

If I was desperate, I might try to find some of that teething / ulcer gel that contains a local anaesthetic (lidocaine or similar) & wap some of that on the sore bit, or maybe just oil of cloves (supposedly local anaesthetic too). Couldn't recommend you do that though, since that's not what they're for. If I did do that, I'd be careful to keep the wound nice & clean every now & then with some of project's "salty mouthwash" ๐Ÿ˜ณ

(oh & go back to your dentist as soon as you can)

You've potentially got a 'dry socket'. Google it.

It will improve over a day or two, but is a ****ing nightmare until it does...

cheers for the replies lads!

tramadol is 250mg and im taking one tab four times a day.

brufen is 400mg taken one four times a day too

was also taking 2 500mg co codamol between the tramadol and brufen

my mouth is throbbing big style and im not ashamed to admit that i cried like a baby about 3 oclock this morning as i just didnt know what to do with myself!!

going straight to the dentist in the morning as i really need it sorted because the exam im taking is quite possibly the most important exam in my career!

no pressure then

Pretty sure your tramadol isn't 250mg renton - if it is, you shouldn't be on four a day ๐Ÿ˜ฏ
(normally up to 100mg 4x daily or 200mg 2x daily if it's slow release)

Wife is a dental nurse, deffo dry socket, she recommends you go back to dentist, he'll pack with an antiseptic to calm it down.......she says it will be ruddy sore but when treated leave as long as possible, as its like a piece of chewed up grass and is very gently packed in the socket.
Best of luck
