Behind blue eyes - The Who
Black dog - Led Zep
A National Acrobat - Sabbath
Smoke on the Water - Deep Purple
This may change but i cant pick out a single song
Edit : Time by Pink Floyd? If this was the greatest guitar solo of all time, 'Time' would definately be it
I completely forgot
Guns and Roses - Paradise City
Rolling Stones - Paint it Black
Black Betty - Spidebait
Pink Floyd? I like them but a bit too far away from rock on the music spectrum to be allowed on this thread
Nobody going back to the 60's?
thunderstruck acdc gives me goosebumps if its loud enough gotta be 11 though
llama - but what is rock? Queen are Rock, as are Slayer, as are Pink Floyd, as are Sex Pistols. What is allowed on this thread?
@CG Rolling Stones Paint It Black ('66) is one of my suggestions..
ABBA the greatest rock band in the world.
Everyone sounds the same after ABBA ...
Whats with all the Very Metal stuff? Iron Maiden? Are you 13? 😉

Just think that Pink Floyd (and I do like Pink Floyd) is closer to prog rock than rawwwwk rock
But you nominate what you want, it's only my opinion.
Radar Love got to be on this album of greats
Smoke on the Water is getting my vote today (but what about Ace of Spades, and what about....)
Categorising music is, like, for squares man.
Sheesh, there's enough rules out there without making your own up.
Dude.
thats why its so hard to pick one, 'rock' covers such a huge area of music. i see where you're coming from though.
Gimme Shelter - Rolling Stones?

Nobody going back to [s]the 60's?[/s] the beginning of the thread
I'd say, erm, what did I say last time this thread came up..?

Hendrix - Voodoo Child
Rolling Stones - Sympathy for the Devil

Crazy Train Ozzy Osbourne simply due to the genius of Randy Rhoads
Ninja edit 😆
...is good
Surely to be the GREATEST ROCK SONG EVAH! It should be FARKIN AMAZING!! not just good.
oh god, this is such a bad bad bad thread.
Faith No More, how could I forget them - Falling to Pieces..
@trout - Radar Love - Golden Earring or White Lion? 🙂
Just nobody post any Christian Rock ffs
I used to quite like Eden Burning 🙂
Did someone say Christian rock?
My God, their music has aged. 😕
(pun semi-intended)
got to be this one for me
Bo Rap.
Why did this thread even get onto 2 pages?
Definitely Barbie girl by aqua
Phantom in the Valley by Howlin' Rain.
Judas Priest , Painkiller. Nightranger, Sister Christian. UFO, Profession of Violence. Define Rock genre, To many to mention.
Can't believe that we've got to page 3 and no one has suggested Radiohead's The Bends. Crank it up and it is absolutely sublime.
Another as yet unsuggested contender is Humble Pie's version of I Don't Need No Doctor.
CFH is still right though.
+1 for Led Zep's Rock and Roll with AC/DC's Whole Lotta Rosie not far behind
I can't believe the thread has got this far without the correct answer.
For the next 5 minutes anyway 😀
you think i aint worth a dollar but i feel a million bucks, qotsa 😀
edit; this week!
Some great suggestions.
As an all rounder, I'd maybe suggest My Sharona- The Knack, or More than a feeling - Boston?
My personal favourite is Blackwater Park - Opeth though. It has everything.
Now there's a contrasting offering!
C_g wanted a definition of rock, well this is as good as any;
Double kick-drum, check
Hammond organ, check
Screaming vocalist, check
Wall of Marshall amps, check
Notice the second kick-drum being brought in at the beginning; apparently, when they recorded it, they had to 'borrow' Keith Moon's, which just happened to be conveniently to hand
To this I would also add
Nantucket Sleighride -Mountain
Join Together -Who
No One Knows -QUOTSA
Might've missed it as work PC won't show embedded links but surely one of them has to be ..... The Rocker, Thin Lizzy (live of course!)
Pretty Vacant .
Thread Closed.
Is this isn't the perfect rock song then I'd like to know why:
The Wildhearts - Caffeine Bomb
wot? no death traps and suicide raps?
Focus-Hocus Pocus
Sabbath-National Acrobat
Rush-Spirit of Radio
Sabbath-Heaven and Hell
Velvet Revolver-Slither
Heavens Basement-Welcome Home
5 Punk
5.1 Punk rock
5.2 New wave
5.3 Post-punk
5.4 New waves and genres in heavy metal
5.5 Heartland rock
5.6 Emergence of alternative rock
6 Alternative
if you're doing this chronologically then you've missed out "goth" somewhere between 5.3 and 6. Unless it IS "6 Alternative".
There were at least two bands that started out as "punk" and morphed into "goth" during the 80s. I give you The Damned and Siouxsie And The Banshees - from New Rose & Love Song to Curtain Call and Sanctum Sanctorum, from Hong Kong Garden & Metal Postcard to Spellbound & Israel...
Pat Benatar- Heartbreaker
Sabbath-National Acrobat
*A* National Acrobat.
