On Sunday, it will be my 14th GNR. I love them. So, I'm no stranger to running, and have done them and other runs with loads of niggling injuries.
Whilst out last Friday hauling myself over a 12 mile training run, I obviously picked up a knee issue. I felt nothing at the time, but during the night the inside of my right knee began to ache / hurt and the knee swelled.
Being the man I am I ran only a few miles on Sunday, no pain whislt running, but afterwards the inside knee pain came with a vengance.
Dr Google suggests it may be overuse (I suspect it would feel better by now) or I may have damaged the Medial Collateral Ligament.
Since then I've rested, gone to work, walked etc.. Still today it aches/hurts, and I have difficulty fully flexing the joint. (I can't pull it so the foot touches my bum). I've not been to a physio, because I expected it to get better....but we are a week on with only slight improvement.
So, do I take a load of Nurofen, man up and run, or take a pass? I don't want to damage it further, I want to run the Manchester Marathon in the spring.
What would you sporty types do??........I'm getting very strong advice from Mrs YP!!!!!

You've done it thirteen times man, give it a miss.

End of the day an experienced runner knows the difference between pain and real pain - I'd trust your own feelings on this one.

I have something that sounds similar.

MRI shows torn medial meniscus.

Stopped running for three months, tried running and back it came.

Been a year now of no running and just started to get back on it very gently. All seems ok, but it's taken that long.

Only you can tell but you need to look at the long game.

I'm an experienced keen runner IM ultras etc. Listen to your body. And when you think you are ready to run, give it a bit more rest!

Up to you, you could start and then not finish, or be sensible and not start at all.

Running and aches and pains are normally as sign of impeding injury, swelling and running is usually one step from more long term injury that can take months to get over
