So this is my 9th Gran Turismo game I think. Must have hundreds, if not thousand hours in each of the previous versions of the game, and have a very good online ranking on GTSport.
The B and A licenses can get in the sea.
I bought a wheel for my PS2, but I couldn't find a place to put it to allow me to use it effectively. Plus it was a cheap one, wasn't worth me spending hundreds and still isn't. I'd rather save up for PSVR2 when it comes out.
I reckon there's a very good chance gt7 will be a psvr2 title, it'd be a master stroke and vr in racing games is just utterly amazing...
As long as you don't look left whilst turning right...
I blame the original GT for me getting a D in my History GCSE in 1998. GT3 took up most of my uni years. A favourite to farm money was to do the Test Course endurance race with the Pikes Peak Suzuki Escudo and just tape the X button down then go make a cuppa/spliff.
Got an Xbox Series X and enjoyed Forza Horizon 4 but Horizon 5 has been a massive let down and Forza Motorsport 8 is miles away from even being close to release. If I could find one I'd buy a PS5 and GT7 in a heartbeat.

So, one weekend in, what are folks thoughts?
I have to say, I’m properly underwhelmed.
Graphics, bang on. Even on a PS4.
Gameplay, frustrating having to unlock tracks, apparently there are 40 odd ‘menu books’ that you have to get through to unlock everything.
Cars. Seemingly they stopped picking cars to feature around 2018, apart from stuff that was DLC’d into GTS. Not a a massive issue for me, as I like the older interesting stuff, or I hope I do, once I unlock the ability to actually buy some.
If this is you first time playing a GT game, it’s fine. But if you put any time into any reacently, you’ll be tearing your hair out. Hope that updates will improve things.
Very much not a game you can pick up for an hour then put down. It will be, but not until you’ve put the graft in to unlock everything.
So more like GT1 through 4 (I think) then, the PS1/PS2 GT games were really grindy, but in a good way for a teenage me.
Playing 5 on an emulator and it feels a bit "quick" compared to those - never got to 6 or sport.
Really want a PS5 for this, but they're unobtanium - I'm sad and not sad at the same time about it!
I'm really enjoying it so far, I haven't played a GT game since GT5 as the wheel I had wasn't compatible with the PS4. My wife suggested that I get another wheel to use with the PS5 when she saw how good GT7 and F1 2021 looked so got one and a month ago, and she's enjoying GT7 as well.
The graphics are amazing, and I think the physics is a massive step up from when I last played GT5. My main complaint is the catch the rabbit format for races, I wouldn't mind a couple of them but every single menu book has been this format so far. It's just lazy from PD.
The licences have been really challenging, with some taking about 50 attempts to get gold, but then the next one will take about 3 attempts so slightly unbalanced. Got gold on all of them up to the super licences so far.
I don't mind the unlocking tracks and working the way through different car types, it's been quite a lot of fun and allowing my wife to get used to racing games.
My username is Markoc_1984 if anyone wants some online races or extra people in the leaderboards

yeah - that was the impression I got from reviews ( I havent played it), I dont want to be forced to grind in order to get interesting cars & tracks, I just want to race whetever I want, where ever I want.
Its fine to have a career mode where you have to work your way up , but not at the expense of just being able to race.
The licences have been really challenging
How hard were IA-8 and 9?! I’m all gold apart from the international A final exam, purely because the ‘all gold’ reward car isn’t worth the ages it’ll take me to find the half second I need to get it. Not started the super license ones yet.
IA-8 was the one that took me 50 attempts, but 9 wasn't too bad, I much preferred the track and car combo so was able to get within 0.01 seconds within a few attempts, then a few more attempts later in the day to get gold I-10 was good fun but I also got one under 0.01 seconds too slow then spent another half hour trying to beat it.
The super licences are full laps so a bit more frustrating if you make a mistake towards the end on the lap as you have to restart the whole thing, 2 gold and 2 silvers so far, and I hear the final one is a real challenge but looking forward to it.
This looks like it could be a thing that'd allow older wheels to work on newer consoles-

Whilst we are on the subject of PS2 nostalgia, anyone know of a modern substitute for SSX Tricky?
It runs well in PCSX2 (PS2 emu) 😎 , dunno if it's backwards-compatible on the newer PS consoles or not :/
Is there major improvements on the driving physics in gt7 compared to gtsport?
I'm not really fussed for the whole single player thing and at the minute, there's only a couple of extra tracks on gt7, as compared to gtsport.
Considering I'm still on ps4, I doubt I'd see any great graphical jump either.
I'm guessing at the minute for someone like me, that just likes to time trial track against my own ghost and play online, gt7 isn't really that much of an upgrade, so no mad rush to chuck 70 quid at them yet?
9 was odd, spent ages getting within .05, then one run just clicked and beat it by .2!

I musta taken 100 goes to do that bloody NSX one (national a 9??). Ended up fluffing the gear change into 3rd on my last attempt (too fast on the lever before the clutch was fully in and it drops you to neutral), rolled the last 100 yards in neutral and still made it..
One other thing, you don’t have to grind to get credits for the mega money cars any more, you can just buy them on the PS Store. £16 gets you 2 million credits. Which is a lot. Of real money. The most expensive cars in games up to now are 20 million.
The makers seem very keen on everything being earned!
I really don't mind the grind, this is a game that should last years, not one that is completed 3 weeks after launch.
The only thing I'd maybe change is the rolling start set up of the races, reduce the gap as on the 16 car races the first car can be halfway around the lap before you've started!
Make it a proper 2x/side by side rolling start and make the AI a bit more competitive - I'm on controller on hard AI and and have to be 25-50 pp under the recommended to make it competitive.
Make it a proper 2x/side by side rolling start
Done a couple of races now where it’s a standing start, that you have to hold the car on the brake/clutch to stop false starting.
Yeah I've seen some people on proper grid starts, I've not come across any yet though and I'm level 20.
I'm not on licence level 20, but have done a couple of grid start events. Holding the brake is tricky with 3 pedal setup 😀
Pro tip, use the handbrake 😉
yeah good call, didn't think of that.
fairly hidden, but you can change the dimensions of wheels (offset, width, diameter) when you buy new ones, which appears to change handling

Widebody EVERYTHING!!
😁
The legends cars really piss me off. I don’t want to play at being a classic car dealer, I want to play at driving old interesting cars. Not save up then hope the car I wanted when I started is being offered for sale on the day I want it and It hasn’t increased in price due to the in game valuations being based on real life, not in game performance.
Just managed to pre-order a PS5 through smyths, no idea when delivery will be but they reckon by end of the month.
Looking forward to getting cracking through this, spent so many hours on the first 5.
Any thoughts as to which version of GT7 is best to buy - are the added extras and cash worth it / necessary?
I just bought the basic diskless version from the PS store. It was the pre launch version so came with 100,000 credit and some cars. To be honest, the little bits of playing I've done on it so far the extra credits haven't really been useful, same with the cars - if you're doing the licenses and following the story you get plenty of credits and free cars as you go.
I got the 25th anniversary/digital deluxe edition so got the 1.6m credits to start with, I've completed all the menu books, and gold on all but the super license, I currently have just under 4m credits - I won 1m from a roulette after completing the menu books.
I've spent nearly 1.5m on cars, customising and tuning...
That's all license tests on gold with the controller 🥳😁
Some were damn hard, IA test with the AMG Merc at the ring, and of course the last special license test with the Porsche on a damp spa.
I am really enjoying this so far (PS4). I've not had a GT game since my PS2 so the nostalgia is helping my enjoyment grinding through.
I really don't get why they haven't built a decent damage system into the game though. For me it takes away some realism when you smash into a wall and barely receive a scratch on your car.
Also, I wish there was a bigger database of cars. I'm a big Alfa fan so I'm a bit disappointed that there aren't many models to choose from! The 8C is the goal though.

The reasoning has always been ‘why make the cars look so good only to smash them up’. Plus how far do you go, if the body is damaged, shouldn’t the handling be affected too? Does look ridiculous in some games where you win/cross the finish line with a car that a scrap dealer would reject. I think if they did do proper damage, they would want to go so far with it that they would never actually release a game…
I couldn't resist, downloading! 🙂
I have had it since the weekend and am far from being a virtual driving deity, probably the last GT game I really played was back in 2004, and it's still pretty familiar!
I quite like the slow progression and having to 'earn' things. It's why I always enjoyed the early games and with my (lower) skill level it makes for a better learning curve. If you've jumped in straight from the last game I guess that's less valuable. But for someone who might not play many driving games and likes the idea of getting stuck into something for a while, I think it is a really good effort - that accessibility might be the compromise for the more experienced players. The number of cars to buy does seem fewer than I was expecting though.
I may have accidentally ordered a PS5 with GT7 (and something called Horizon Forbidden West?) today.
I can't wait.
One thing I like that hasn’t been in the previous ones is properly variable weather/track conditions. Different bits of Spa can have different weather, like in real life.
Aye so got it downloaded last night, scooted through the licenses(Just bronzed them all, one after the other), still got the last test to do in the super licence, SPA in with a variably wet track and hard tyres is a pain in the arse I keep spinning off in the last long run, think it gets wetter just as you build up speed, going to have to crawl round there! 😆
First impressions on the game are, the physics are better in the cars, they are a bit more lively I think(I might need to go back to GTSport to confirm) but it's defo my impression, definitely feel I need to be more sensitive on the accelerator, some of the tracks are slightly adjusted. The game feels faster overall I think too. The live weather system is interesting. Seems a decent upgrade. I imagine there will be tracks added and the game expanded as time goes.
What kind assists are you all using? I'm doing my usual, everything off and manual gears. But I did have to go back and stick ABS on to weak, just to temper the break pedal a bit. Other than that, as usual a few cars I find sticking on traction control to 1 or 2 helps a bit, but try to keep it off as much as possible.
The reasoning has always been ‘why make the cars look so good only to smash them up’.
IIRC, the argument Sony used back in the day was it was a licensing requirement, the manufacturers wouldn't let them. With the benefit of hindsight I rather suspect that the issue was more one of horsepower in the original Playstation.
I think if they did do proper damage, they would want to go so far with it that they would never actually release a game…
As for car damage, this is from Forza Horizon 5 last night:

FYI, apparently licence IN-5, the Evo rally car one is a bit borked at the moment - the most recent update has put road tyres on the car instead of dirt tyres.
I couldn’t get within 7/10ths of gold time so googled settings etc and found the info. Think I’ll leave it until it’s fixed. Makes sense as I simply couldn’t get any traction round the last bends whilst the demo car sails round.
I assume it will get realeased over time, but there doesnt appear to be a big money race that’s good for acquiring decent credits quickly. There’s the World Series which works out around 450k for an hour of driving (5x10ish min races at 60k plus 150k for winning the championship) which is frustrating if you want a 20mil car and you don’t have literally thousands of real pounds to spend on buying the credits.
Seems you can’t sell cars either, which is a bit weird, given the car collector/dealer aspect.
And no events that need a higher qualification than national A licence…
I’ve just watched this and I really rate Failrace - he’s a bit underwhelmed with it and watching that video make the game seem really dull.
Mind you I play FH5 and it’s mental sometimes.

It's acknowledged in the "Known Issues" post as of yesterday.
IA-3 was almost impossible, scraped a bronze and absolutely no chance of anything better...

If you like the previous ones (millions do), you’ll like this one.
He’s bang on in everything he says though. The only justification I can maybe give is that the was a TON of free dlc released over the years for GT Sport. Can only hope that’s the plan here, start small and grow
