Been so smug since I've had a Pixel 3a - everything works great, no desire to update.. battery last for days!! then Android 12 last update comes along and it's got worse battery than my old iPhone5 now. Can almost watch the %age go down 🙁
Anyone else? Found a solution?

When you do an upgrade it resets all the optimisations that it's done. All the apps come back to life all the time, for example. It'll settle down in a few days.

Cheers, yeah I'm pretty sure the update was late last week and it's been going downhill since then.
Turned off/on and its lost 8% in the last hour or so. I think Google have done an Apple and ****ed the phone so you have to buy an upgrade. Gutted, cos it was easily the best thing about the phone.

Has the pixel 3 still got the battery usage bit that shows you what's drained the battery the 3 was one of the great phones, my 4 died when my o\h dropped it last week. There is a 6a and a 7 on its way apparently

I have a 4a, and it seems fine, but annecdoataly my mate has a 3a and is moaning about the battery failing, but he must have had it 5ys+., the batteries don't last forever...

I'd check the battery usage thingymagic (technical term). I've occasionally found an app that has just been sucking power that has required a re-install or similar post update so I'd make sure all of your apps are also updated.

one thing I have read, is don't let it drop below 10% or fully charge it, it's kinder on the battery to just trickle charge it.

Yeah, I appreciate that, but the battery failing would be a gradual thing wouldn't it? Not one day it bloody great, next its utter crap!

I did notice my 3a XL seemed to be chewing through battery a bit last week. Settled back down again now though, so maybe molgrips' stuff about apps is on the money 🙂

Looks like my music streaming app has been using most battery (only 17%) but I don't use that on my phone much (use other devices). Strange. I'll kill the app, see how it is after that.

I had this on my 4a several weeks ago. It then magically mostly fixed itself.

I've got a Pixel 4a and haven't noticed any battery issues - it's not that old a phone though - I got it when they were first released - so around end Sept 2020 (according to the first pic I took on it).

Regarding this:

I don't know if all Pixels do this (I assume they do), but if you charge overnight and have an alarm set, the phone will reduce the charging rate so it fully charges by the time the alarm goes off, rather than fast charging in an hour & having the phone sit at 100% all night.
Quite a neat feature to reduce knackering the battery with constant fast charging.

My wife has my old Pixel 3A XL with Android 12 (it was running the beta version for months and now the released version) and it has no issues.

Cheers for that theomen - at least I know it's not some shitty update then.
I've always been pretty careful not to overcharge the phone, but I do nearly always use the fast charger (15 min charge time, another reason to be smug!). Maybe I should trickle charge more often.
Go info people, thanks.

The smart charge is annoying as it needs an alarm set - I've got one for weekend and it doesn't appear to work as charging still tells me it'll be done in 2 hours. Ideally, it would just do a trickle charge by default after 9pm (or a time you can set).

Which Pixel? Apparently it only works on 4 & newer.

It would be good though if you could set schedules where it slow charges, rather than relying on an alarm to enable that functionality.

My Pixel 5 drained while on the wireless charger last night. First time ever. There's definitely something unhappy with the latest update.

Looks like something has made a difference (maybe killing the music app..) - still have 26hrs on the battery and lost about 4% overnight. Looking better 😀

3a, no change in battery for me. Agree it's an excellent value phone - I bought October '19 and yet to see any slowdown or battery issues which would normally have killed a phone by now

Pixel 5 here and battery life got a lot worse after the last update but has improved since.

My 'sleeoer cell' appears to be the Garmin app. Without actually opening the app at all it's using 15% of my battery on my phone. My fenix 5 watch had also suddenly lost the plot and is chewing through its battery in double quick time. I wonder if the Garmin cockwombles have been up to their usual nause it up at all costs MO again.

Uninstall and re-install any app that's giving you gip.

A couple of weeks ago my P4 went through a period where, for some reason, it would suddenly lose a big chunk of charge - 95% to 70% in around 15 minutes sitting in my pocket.

All OK now, and I never did find out what caused it

I've been dismissing the update prompts for Android 12 for about 6 months now, after it ballsed up my gf's 4a (which was replaced under warranty and new replacement still sat in it's box, if anyone's interested...). I expect at some point I will have to let it update, but I'm putting that off for as long as possible.

My Pixel 4a occasionally loses charge at a ridiculously fast rate.
Kinda thought Spotify was to blame but not so much now.

My phone really does not like getting warm - particularly if used by a sunny window.
The battery can drain in minutes when that happens.

Is phone signal ok as that can drain the battery quickly as well.
