The actor, Ray Brooks that voiced the Mr Benn TV series in the 70's which I remember well, passed away yesterday.ย

ย

He did other stuff too and I do recognise the face but I never knew he voiced Mr Benn.

Thanks for the memories and I wish you well on this, your last and biggest adventure.ย

I can't remember who the comedian was that said their vision of death and moving on to the afterlife was for a familiar looking gentleman in a fez appearing and taking you back to a fancy dress shop on Festive Road.

I met Ray Brookes once back in the 90s, an arts project I was part of was featured in a show he presented (I just watched it back - my ear appears on screen fleetingly in the corner of shot) . Was quite a surreal experience - I think the voice of Mr Benn is so engrained with people from a certain generation it was like talking to someone whose voice was your own internal monologue.

He also starred in a radio police drama on Radio 4 that is regularly repeated on 4 Extra, called Detective quite a good procedural script and also covered some of the 80's corruption in the Met.ย
