I appreciate this is vague, but there's a one on the main drag through Stockport which is a fantastic little family-run affair (or was when I went a few years back).

Googling, it may be Al Fresco I'm thinking of.

There's also Benvenuti on the same road.

Nino's do the best take-away pizza for miles around, but wouldn't have leapt to mind as a restaurant.

Have you tried Romulus in Bramhall? We've been a couple of times and its been good.

Keep meaning to try the two in Poynton, but never got round to it!

Contis in Disley?

Al fresco in Stockport is good. Don't go on Saturday night.. It's party night then......!!

Il pomeidoro in poynton has been there as long as I can remember so it must be doing something right

Contis is ok, nothing special, but they do let kids make their own pizza, and if you eat early enough you get a free kids meal with each adult meal

Mimis in Sale (opposite town hall) has great food. Only bad point was paying £2.50 per glass of coke for the kids, which was tipped out of a two litre bottle! Otherwise excellent.

James, have you tried Avanti in Heaton Moor Top, I've had some nice meals there, and haven't heard anone say they haven't liked it.

i wouldn't bother with Valentinos a few doors down.

I've also had fantastic seafood linguini in Donatello's on the A6 in Heaton Chapel, and it has a light, airy feel in the there which I really like.

I know its too far away but I have fond memories of D'Aldo's in Soho London. Handwritten menu's and very very old school 😀

There's a new-ish place called Coco's on Regent Road, Altrincham. Went with Mrs Hooter last weekend and thought it was very good. The Thai place opposite is also excellent.

Benvenuti's been there even longer. I honestly can't remember a time when it didn't exist...

Know what you mean.
We walked out of there last year, as they put us in the cheap room (upstairs) with 20 15 year old giggling girls - hubby wanted to stay though, can't think why!
Always enjoyed the food.

Benvenuti isn't to good these days. Not sure it ever was but it did seem to tolerate big groups 😉

Mauro's in Mottram is pretty good. More south of Manchester than south Manchester though. Although no further than Poynton and the like.
