You need to wear something skimpy and a big hat. Six inch heels that sink into soft ground are good but maybe stick to four inches for your first outing.

Have fun 🙂

I live in Newbury and, from what I see out in town on race day evenings, you need to be wearing a smart suit then be dragged through a hedge until suitably disheveled, vomit and droll stains seem to be the norm. I think it helps with the look to get smashed on the coach before you even get to the races too.

Expect that the horses thundering past and the crowd cheering is pretty exciting.

To bet decide what horse(s) you want - read the form book they give you but tbh its a guessing game, then look at the bookies signs for the best odds, go up to the bookie and tell him what you want, give him your money and take a ticket. Bet to win or each way (to win + placed 1,2,3 sometimes 4) - each way costs you double. If you win give the man back the ticket and take your cash.

Not been to thirsk but smart casual (no trainers) is ok for other places unless you are going in a posh enclosure or a box.

At Thirsk - something warm if last weekend was anything to go by. The wind was blowing through and everywhere was cold!
Unless you are in the Premier Enclosure you can wear whatever you like.
To bet, just walk up to a course side bookie and ask. Remember it is double the stake for an Each Way bet.
