Hi just lucky to have been given one for xmas, & seems a bit of confusion as to best micro SD card to use
I.e capacity, write speed etc
Any recomendations that you guys have used ??
plus camera setting you use would be really helpful.
Many thanks.

get a sandisk class 10 card, that'll cope with full HD and roughly 12min per GB at that setting.
If you intend to record in 4K then you'll need a bigger and faster card to cope with longer recordings.

I've had a couple of Sandisk cards fail on me recently when I've been using them in my phone. I've moved to Samsung cards and I've not had any problems.
Class 10 in any brand should be fast enough for video.

I'd take any "class" designations with a pinch of salt between brands.

Surprised you had Sandisk cards fail; were they from a reputable source? There are a lot of counterfeit cards doing the rounds.

Careful with Sandisk, the ultra is known to be particularly troublesome. Sandisk extreme seem to be ok. As stated class 10 minimum and gopro recommended to be safe.

Be careful with part numbers on the GoPro site. I fell for them not being updated from SD to MicroSD card, hastily ordered by part number and got a card that didn't fit!
.(edit - just checked and those look correct so they must have updated the site)

You want Micro SD, I'd recommend one of these Lexar cards which work a treat at Hugh res and are fast to download:

I use Sandisk ultra and never had an issue except for 1 x card which was prob a fake.

Currently running Samsung 16 and 32GB class 10.

I am using a 32gb sandisk ultra and have no problems. Would probably buy one of the ones listed above if buying again though, just for peace of mind.

Be careful at supermarkets. They usually only have Class 4 or 6 cards. There will be a number on the front of the card in a circle, this indicates the class speed. You may get lucky and have a supermarket that sells class 10.

PC world, maplins or a phone shop will be your best bet but you'll pay more than online.

I shot at 1080p 25fps for two hours and 15 mins the other week on my gopro black. It used approx 16gb.
So I would guess at max frame rate of 50fps at 1080p you would get a couple of hours video.

Hi..

I can only find a average priced class 10 32gb ...

Should I go 32gb rather than 64gb??

If you got over 2 hours for 16gb, sounds like I should be ok

32gb should last longer than the battery.

Gopro have a short list of recommendations on their website if you want to use the highest of the high settings... Though realistically, not sure if there's a lot of point in that.

"Not all Class 10 microSD cards have the same data write speeds. If you plan to shoot in 4k, 2.7k, or Protune video modes with your HERO3: Black Edition or HERO3+ Black Edition camera, we recommend using one of the following microSD cards for the best performance:

SanDisk Extreme 32GB microSDHC (SDSDQX-032G)
SanDisk Extreme 64GB microSDXC (SDSDQX-064G)
Lexar 32GB SDHC 600x (LSDMI32GBSBNA600R)
Lexar 64GB SDXC 300x (LSDMI64GBBNL300R)
Delkin 32GB SDHC (DDMICROSDPRO2-32GB)
Delkin 64GB SDXC (DDMICROSDPRO264GB)
Samsung 64GB SDXC (MB-MGCGB/AM)

With the camera software update released July 29, 2013, using other microSD cards with your HERO3: Black Edition camera while shooting in 4K, 2.7K and Protune video modes may result in a reduction of the data stream rate from 45Mb/sec to 35Mb/sec."

Went out in a rush and picked a card up.. Not sure it's the right one though!!

Hero3 Black Edition & a SanDisk Ultra ..

Hello,

Just got a Hero 3 Black edition and went out and purchased a Micro SD card.

Purchased a SanDisk Ultra microSDHC UHS-I (Class 10) - official link- http://www.sandisk.co.uk/products/mem...

Purchased it without reading the recommend cards, before I open this card preventing me from returning it, does anyone have any first hand experience with this card ? (I have read some of the other threads reagarding write issues with some cards.)

Just want to make sure I have a card which will do the job. (the job been middle quality settings for MTB'ing)

Many Thanks

Rick

edit @ CHB. Is this the same as yours ???? Cheers

I got this one from Amazon
SanDisk 32GB 45MB/s Class 10 Mobile Extreme microSDHC Card with SD Adapter
http://amazon.co.uk/dp/B00FQOXI3G
£38
First time playing with the new Xmas hero 3 today, recorded in 720 and 1080 but only the 720 would playback smooth on the laptop.
Am I right in thinking there is not enough RAM on the laptop to cope with the 1080?

Most players will struggle with the videos straight off the camera.

Rickt, I've been running similar for over a year on my Black 3. No issues.

Just ran an SD test on one of my cards and pulled over 40MB/s.

Has anyone gone from a Hero 3 silver or black edition to a 3+? If so, was it a big difference?

Rickt: yes I got the ultra off Amazon, as it was in the "this is what other internet fools buy when not researching, but buying this camera" link.
No problems so far, and it was less than £20.

Not worth upping the Ram on the laptop then?
So what the best way to watch back then?

I think I can be certain that no supermarket card will be better. I have used this at 1080p 25fps for over one hour solid and had no buffer issues. Also tested at 4k for 10 mins with no issues. So my advice is to crack on with it, and maybe buy one of the recommended ones in good time, but no rush.

SOAP you could try (if you haven't already): copying the 1080 footage onto the laptop HDD, and also try using VLC media player instead of windows media player.

Got these mounts for Christmas. Was very sceptical as it comes with a battery as well but for the money its a quality buy when you compare the price of just one genuine gopro mount.

Daughter been busy editing today!
The link plays at 720p, embedded version not hi res for some reason.

I bought a SanDisk microSDHC Ultra 32GB, class 10, UHS-I, 30MB/sec. It worked ok to start with, but now stops in the middle of recording when on a higher quality setting. I've got the silver Go pro and the site recommends that any class 10 card is ok. Not sure if it's the card or the camera as sometimes what I film plays back a pink colour.

Sandisk should be ok on the GP3 silver. I am running the same.

I have been trying out the samsung pro and lexar cards and they are both pretty good - The world of SD and Micro SD cards explained - http://www.unsponsored.co.uk/press/?p=1836

Sandisk Extreme Plus 32gb seems to be the current daddy. Got one for my hero 3+ black last week.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00D6XXL7M/ref=pe_385721_37038051_TE_dp_1

p.s. if getting from amazon make sure its from them and not a marketplace trader.

All Sandisk cards run at a limited rate on the Black, so they don't screw up. Even if the card is capable of 40mb/s the GoPro Firmware runs it at a limited rate.

I use the Samsung cards and have no problems with 1080p/60 with Protune.

As for which settings to use, check out this link. Abe is the guy who produces a lot of the official GoPro videos so he knows what he's talking about.

Actually they dont run limited any more - only the ultra. Has been tested with newest fw on hero3+ black and shown to be 45mb/s with the extreme, despite what some people are saying.

Actually they do run limited on the Black still (35mb/s), it has been fixed with the 3+, but not the 3.
