Mrs TJ has had a few cheap pairs online with no issues at all. when I finally crack and get some fulltime glasses thats what I will be doing.

I do have some prescription readers from a high street chain - £35 for two pairs. they tried to sell me varifocals at £300. I said no

Vision Express are a rip-off. Specsavers are ok, they're 'Designer' frames are just their frames with a label but last as long as anything else, think that the advice given from their 'consultants' is not always great.

Last set were a set of Oakley's, they're nice but the arms that grip round the ears weren't as good as I'd hope.

Normally its the lenses getting so scratched that they're unuseable that triggers a new purchase. I always get an upgraded 'anti-scratch' coating but still only ever get 2 years out of them. My current glasses came from and Independent which were maybe £100 than Specsavers all-in for similar spec, but the frames are Oakley and the anti-scratch on these lenses seem to be holding up quite well so far.

Only commenting because there have been so many positive comments, but the Oakley prescription (not cycling) glasses I had were the worst glasses I've ever owned for longevity, colour chipped off the frames really easily and the socks perished in the first few months, then had to wear them looking like a tramp for 2 years because they cost me 350 quid and I was too tight to replace them, Gucci's weren't much better either. This coming from a guy who has my first pair that are now 25 years old and still look pretty decent in a drawer, only replaced because they are massive :). I just buy the ones that suit me and feel comfortable these days. I only look at the price after I've decided which ones I want. I'll have to wear them non-stop for 2 or 3 years so it's not worth fretting about the cost.

I use a French online site (live in France) and been super happy. If anyone wants a recommendation for bling frames that last, I'm using some RayBans which are now 3 or 4 years old and the frames still fit and look like new. Lenses starting to get scratched though.

For measuring pupil separation, I held a ruler across the bridge of my nose and took a selfie, then measured it in Photoshop! Seemed to work pretty well. Took a few photos from different distances, etc. and measured separately to be sure I had a consistent measurement.

Last time I looked Asda were only doing emergency type appointments, they seemed to have a good reputation on MSE. Unsure about buying online, have been fleeced by an indie and frankly don't understand why I'm having to pay so much for non-designer reading glasses.

Need to decide what to do and put an end to dithering.

Me too. Wayfarers, with varifocal Transition lenses from a Local specs shop.
Had my eyes tested at Boot's opticians.
